CHAPTER 1

Amara stood alone in her lavish bedroom, her fingers frozen around her phone as she stared at the screen.

There, in glaring detail, were photos of Luca, her husband, his arm around a blonde model at an exclusive club in Monaco. “All business,” he’d said with a wink before leaving.

Her mouth curved into a bitter smile. “All business, huh?”

Just then, the door creaked open, and Luca strolled in, looking surprised but composed, clearly not expecting to find her awake.

“Amara,” he said, giving her a tight-lipped smile as he adjusted his suit jacket. “You’re up late.”

“Oh, am I?” Her tone was sharper than she intended, but she was past caring. “Didn’t want to miss welcoming my hard-working husband home from his…‘business trip.’”

Luca paused, a flicker of unease crossing his face. “I told you, Monaco was for networking, nothing else.”

“Oh, really?” She raised her phone, the damning photos displayed in full color. “Then, explain this.”

His jaw tightened. “Amara, that’s nothing. Just people from the industry.”

“‘Just people’?” Her laugh was hollow. “That’s a bit cozy for just people, don’t you think? Her practically glued to your side, and that little…handhold?”

“Amara, you’re blowing this out of proportion.” He tried to keep his voice calm, but his eyes darted to the floor. “You know how these events are, everyone’s friendly—”

“No, Luca.” Her voice was cool. “Friendly is shaking hands. Friendly is small talk.

Friendly is not…” She gestured to the phone. “This.”

He looked away, stuffing his hands into his pockets as if he could tuck away his guilt.
“Listen, I didn’t mean for this to happen. It’s just…part of the lifestyle, okay?” he muttered, barely looking at her.

“Part of the lifestyle?” She couldn’t help it—she laughed, but it was laced with disbelief. “That’s the best you can come up with? I’m not here to be a prop for your lifestyle, Luca. I’m your wife, or have you forgotten?”

Luca’s face softened, and he took a step closer, his voice dipping to a smooth, persuasive tone. “Amara, come on. We’ve built something beautiful together. Why throw that all away over a few meaningless photos?”

“Oh, I’m sorry.” She crossed her arms. “Were you under the impression that I’m okay being your arm candy while you chase whatever ‘meaningless’ distraction crosses your path?”

“That’s not fair,” he shot back, his tone defensive now. “I’m out there working to give us the life you wanted. The life we agreed on. You know this.”

“What I wanted?” She raised an eyebrow. “I didn’t want a life where I’m the last person to know what my husband’s really up to. Where people laugh behind my back because I’m the ‘naive wife’ who doesn’t know a thing about her husband’s games.”

Luca ran a hand through his hair, irritation flaring in his eyes. “Alright, maybe I made a mistake. But it’s not like I went off and—
“Don’t.” Her voice was cold, cutting him off mid-sentence. “Don’t make excuses. I’ve put up with enough, thinking you’d change, that you actually cared.”

His expression shifted, a hint of desperation creeping in. “Amara, come on. This is just one slip-up. Let’s be rational here. People go through worse and stay together.”

“People who love each other, yes. But you?” She shook her head, her heart breaking even as her words grew stronger. “You don’t love me, Luca. You love the idea of me standing by you, looking perfect, making you look…respectable.”

He seemed to falter, his confidence slipping. “So what are you saying?”

“I’m saying,” she took a deep breath, meeting his gaze, “I want a divorce.”
Luca’s face fell, the shock evident as her words settled in. “You’re serious.”

“As serious as you were when you looked me in the eyes and told me Monaco was all about business.” Her voice was unwavering now, firm. “I deserve better, Luca.”
