17 - A Book About a Run Club
The Monsters of TempletonI read this a long time ago but loved it, and I remember a running club that shows up quite a bit in the book.
LOL. I'm a member of a running club! I love to run, but I don't think I've ever read a book about a run club before. I've read several running books though.
Not quite - but as close as I am likely to get: The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner by Alan Sillitoe which is also a book of interconnected short stories.I immediately got the image of the men running towards the sea at the end of The Persian Expedition by Xenophon and I am thinking of using it.
I found The End of the World Running Club among my partner's books so I'll read that if nothing else crops up. He says he enjoyed it.
I searched for "running club" on my library's online catalog and came up with this one -- Zombie Apocalypse Running Club. Think that's what I'm going for!
Kenya wrote: "I searched for "running club" on my library's online catalog and came up with this one -- Zombie Apocalypse Running Club. Think that's what I'm going for!"I did likewise and found The Running Club, which I may well use, and The Cancer Ladies' Running Club as well as The End of the World Running Club
I am reading the Dirty Martini Running Club (series) by Claire Kingsley. I read the first one, Faking Mr. Right, and plan to read the prequel next.
I swear I just read a book about a couple that met while training for the NY marathon in a running club, but I can't seem to find it in my GR books.
The Break-Up Pact by Emma LordRomcom with the couple being former high school teammates from cross country running. They do go running during the book as well.
Run with the Wind- heard about this one from a youtuber I like. It just got an english translation, so this might be the book I pick up

Thank you!! I needed a spot for this book!
this is random, but does anyone know why Popsugar chose the terminology "Run Club" instead of "Running Club"?
"Run club" just sounds so AWKWARD to me. I've always said "running club." ("Always" haha as if this is a common topic of conversation for me - IT'S NOT.)

Apparently Nike has a "run club" but all the local ones are definitely called running clubs. The only one that tempts me to get fit and join, is one where they set blood hounds after you and you have to try and outrun them. No one does.
This might be a stretch, as it’s about a track team rather than a running club, but The Tigerbelles: Olympic Legends from Tennessee State sounds fascinating: it’s the story of the 1960 Tennessee State University’s all-Black women’s track team, which won 23 medals at the Rome Olympics. This book list, from Runner’s World, could also be helpful here… https://www.runnersworld.com/gear/a20...
Wow, there are way more books that qualify for this category than I had realized... AND none of them look interesting!

LOL this is always what crosses my mind when a prompt is so specific

Running with Sherman. This book is very good. This is nonfiction. Chris McDougall rescued a donkey but the donkey was in bad shape. Sherman's body had to be healed but his mind needed healing too. In order to soothe Sherman he needed a job. Chris decided to enter Sherman in the burro racing world championship but first Sherman had to be taught to run. Sherman's rehabilitation took a village & dedication. There are runners in the book, members of the Amish running club, and burro racers. A big running community. Another book by Christopher McDougall is Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen. Very good.
Jesse wrote: "Sigh. Looks like another prompt I'll be replacing with one from another challenge."Agree. Both this and the soccer prompt.

I am not a runner, nor do I ever expect to be. That said, I do find Slow AF Run Club: The Ultimate Guide for Anyone Who Wants to Run, since it mentions body types similar to mine (out of shape, mostly), and Running with Sherman, which includes an animal, intrigue me as possibilities.I decided to go with Running with Sherman, since it is easily available. I realize that it isn't about a run club, although the blurb states that one is involved in Sherman's rehab. Still...a run club is mentioned. Good enough for me.

I would recommend both Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books and The Hemingway Book Club of Kosovo, both non-fiction, where the author is the person running the club.
Running is my least favourite form of exercise, right up there with pilates classes. I'm not sure what I'll read for this yet.

Aw, man! That is so frustratiing! Hope you find it eventually! 😊

I like that twist!

Yes! Definitely! There are 4 books in this Track series by Jason Reynolds who is, IMO, one of the most gifted writers I've read! He is phenomenal!
Each book tells the story of one of this running club's members, hence the single word title for each book. They are targeting Middle Grade/YA. But I just adore this series! The characters are complex yet relatable, and I believe, totally authentic. Highly recommended!

OMG! Running with Sherman was already on my TBR listing! This has to be a good one, doesn't it? Especially if you are an animal lover!
Just wanted to point out that while What I Talk About When I Talk About Running is a good book, it's not about a run club. Murakami runs alone. It's about his runs and training for marathons, etc. As far as I can recall he is not in any kind of club. When I mentioned this prompt to my boyfriend he predicted that there would be run club murder mysteries (like how there are baking murder mysteries, coffee shop murder mysteries, etc) and I found one! The Running Club. I don't know if I want to read it but wanted to point it out for those who aren't really into running since I think this will be more of a thriller.
I'm going with November Project: The Book: Inside the Free, Grassroots Fitness Movement That's Taking Over the World.
Short listopia and none look that interesting though I’m not opposed to running so it’s not that. I might copy the idea of a book with a “run club” meaning someone runs it.I wonder if they called a run club instead of running club on purpose to allow that interpretation?
The Track series by Jason Reynolds are excellent books about middle school kids who are on the same track team. I read them all a few years ago. If I don't find anything else that would catch my attention, I'll read "Ghost" again.
I'm mostly finished with Sprinkles and Sea Serpents by Danielle Garrett, and the victims are all part of a running club.

You are a lifesaver! I don't care about this prompt but I read another book by this author and enjoyed it, and really like the sound of this one. Thank you so much!
Thought about skipping this one but also thought of something I told myself last month and that was to read books about Indigenous athletes so I came across this one:Spirit Run: A 6,000-Mile Marathon Through North America's Stolen Land
Though technically not a "run club", it is about a group that gets together to run marathons so that counts I think.

I don't know how I didn't notice your post and then went on to basically say the same thing. :D
Kenya wrote: "I searched for "running club" on my library's online catalog and came up with this one -- Zombie Apocalypse Running Club. Think that's what I'm going for!"The description of this book reminds me of an old app I once used called Zombies, Run! It was an app for walking/running and it would track your run but also played zombie sounds. When the sounds got louder you had to run faster. It still exists and I think I've found the book I will read for this prompt. Thanks for the suggestion.
Finished my first book of the challenge. Born to Run. Christopher McDougall. So good. Glad I finally had the motivation to grab it off the shelf.
I am really struggling with this prompt and what to read. After I went through all my TBR bookshelf I came across a book about a runner and his life. Also, the fact that he is training to possibly go to the Olympics. I think it fits....so I am using it:The Front Runner by Patricia Nell Warren

Well, okay Popsugar! Why don't you just tell me which book you had in mind?! I can't say I've ever read a book about a running club before, so this will surely expand my horizons.
