I've been almost scared to start Wheel of Time. So many people love it. What if I don't?

You should check out Andy Weir's other works, Artemis and Project Hail Mary, if you haven't already.

What do you like most about Fourth Wing?

Jabotikaba wrote: "At least this Amidamaru-like guy is a welcome change from the passionate orcs and sexy fae kings and other boring characters."
I never came across books about the passionate orcs!
Shrek was a fun character. But was an ogre:)

Yeah...but Shrek had layers...he was like an onion...

Interesting. but I am sure it has been done. In my book 5, which is waiting for me to write it, there will feature a romance between two orc like characters. I would be pleased if I was alone in that....but sadly, I doubt I will get to lay claim to first.

For some strange reason, orcs are a pretty common character in fantasy romances. But, of course, the popularity of orcs can't compare to that of vampires, elves, and dragon shapeshifters.

How do you like The Priority of the Orange Tree? I'm curious, but also intimidated by its size :)

This year I seem to have developed a habit of finally reading books I’ve always meant to, but somehow never got around to. My current quest? A Song of Ice and Fire, book two: A Clash of Kings.

I tore through the first book and am now happily embracing the second. Oddly enough, I never really connected with the TV series (don’t call the Night’s Watch on me just yet), but the books? Pure gold. The politics, the twists, the characters — it’s like discovering a whole new realm I didn’t know I’d been missing.

I read those books a long time ago, but I agree that they are engaging. I was immersed in that world!

Mathew Kellerman | 51 comments I, too, loved ASOIAF. The worst part is finishing Dance of Dragons and then realizing you'll never get any more.

Unless my theory about the last books already being finished is correct, that is...

Kristina Kamaeva | 89 comments I watched Game of Thrones after reading the books, and mostly I liked the adaptation. I think that their ending wasn't that bad; I could live with it :)
House of the Dragon (a prequel to Games of Throne) was painful to watch!

@Kristina
I’ll give the series another try once I’ve finished the books — and most likely spend the whole time muttering, “The books are better,” like some sort of grumpy maester. 😄 Still, I’m curious enough to see how they handled it all… and maybe even brace myself for House of the Dragon with a strong drink in hand.

@Mathew
I’m really enjoying ASOIAF — and yes, I’m clinging to the hope that I’ll get to read the remaining books before I join the Night’s Watch myself. If your theory is right and they’re already finished, let’s just hope George is guarding them less closely than a dragon guards its gold. 🐉📚

Hey Charlton, I’ve never read any of Raymond Feist’s books, but I’ve heard great things about them. Do you enjoy them?

message 120: by Charlton (new)

Charlton (cw-z) | 8 comments I think Feist has some of the best novels around, I'm a fan.
No dark fantasy inasmuch, but story and intrigue and magicians.

I do, first house - clean.
I like the writing, it's quick and the fight scenes were so well written.
