Jen | 88 comments I listened to Perfect Bound: A new 2024 memoir of trauma, heartbreak and recovery by Lindsay Nicholson

It's a memoir from a former magazine editor (UK Good Housekeeping) & a fascinating read.

Perfect bound is a publishing term for how magazines can be bound together, but as her memoir unfolds, those two words have different meanings in different contexts.

Jens (jensjot) | 5 comments Ideas of what a pun are very different among the people who posted in this thread (or voted on the Goodreads list) 😅

That's ok! A reminder for those people who want to be more literal about it: A pun is "a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words which sound alike but have different meanings" (Oxford reference). Not every joke is a pun.

That's kind of why I kinda don't like that this prompt shows up in one of my challenges every year. Very few titles are actual puns. I just pick a book off the lists and go with them.

message 125: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 95 comments I read Temple of Swoon by Jo Segura

Since we all seem to be justifying our pun choices: this title is a turn on the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Which was referenced a couple of times throughout the story.

Fun little romance. I enjoyed it.

message 130: by Kailey (new)

Kailey McLeod (inkandoak) | 4 comments Considering A Gorgeous Excitement because currently reading and I feel like it does work as a pun, but it isn't an obvious pun and moreso a subjective one (if one considers excitement to be gorgeous or not). What do others think? Too much of a cop out since I happen to be reading it?
