Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 660 comments @Thieren- yes that’s the correct paperback I’m reading. Sorry responding on my phone so it won’t let me just reply.

Thank you

Thieryn | 107 comments Ulysses update - I am at 11% and I am somewhat conflicted. Chapter 1, 2, 4 and 5 were pretty smooth, I wrote down several nice expressions and quotes that stuck with me. It read slow but steady. Chapter 3 on the other hand, the first (dare I hope, only?) internal monologue/stream of consciousness from Stephen's character... I lost the will to live! I even took a nap half-way through, because that was a biatch to read. Good golly!

Ugh! I hate sections like that. It's seriously draining and makes the idea of picking up the book again daunting.

Thieryn | 107 comments Does anyone know how I can mark my progress on GoodReads? It used to have a dedicated section somewhere for your "currently reading" books, but with the redesign I have lost it :(

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Thieryn I don't have an answer for you, but there's weird annoying things going on with GR regularly it feels like. I suddenly had like 10 books showing up on my duplicates list (not even books read recently) where my star rating was associated with one edition and all of my tags with the other edition. So as I was trying to clean them up by deleting the one with only the star rating I realized that suddenly I didn't have reviews anymore on those books. And when I tried to prevent it by opening the review on the ratings edition to copy it, thinking it must have slid the review there and thus deleted it when I deleted that edition, but the review disappeared from both editions the minute I opened up the review section. Since I only figured out what was going on several books in I was really only able to save like one review by copying it from the book page BEFORE opening up the actual review screen. *headdesk*

I have since found it! Thank you Catherine!

And Shelby, that issue with the duplicates was a known bug (which they have yet to fix it seems). They had a thread in the support forums where you could ask them to clean the duplicates up, and one where they cleaned your "ALL" shelf. If I can find it again I will share it with you. I posted there and it took about a week, but it was then done and I have never had any issues.

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments FROM THE MODS

So there were a lot of missteps with signups this round the mods would like us to remind everyone to...

"READ THE RULES AND SIGN UP FORM, as the signup requirements can and do change each time (e.g. Wheels 8 was per week, Book Games was for a month)"

With that in mind they are having everyone do an early update of books to see where teams are at in the reading as there are some reserve players and they want to distribute them as fairly as possible. There are numerous teams that have had errors in people's stated planned reading so the fairest way they can do things is to have us all update early and reevaluate where teams are at.

With that in mind can everyone please have your read books updated by midday tomorrow that would be lovely. Mods are going to do a reevaluation on Friday and as Captains we'll be doing a update tomorrow night. :)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Catherine - When you get a moment can you please double check your page counts for Mistress of Lies and Ever After? The page counts you have listed don't match the editions on your shelf, so wasn't sure what was correct. :)

Thieryn | 107 comments Shelby wrote: "With that in mind can everyone please have your read books updated by midday tomorrow that would be lovely."

Does that mean update the progress of the books we are reading? Because I am 1/3rd of the way through 3 books, and will start the remaining 2 after I finish Ulysses this weekend (hopefully) so... what would I update here? I have no completed books yet :)

message 63: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Just completed books!

We often have players who don't immediately mark books read and will only update once or twice a week - which is absolutely fine! So it's more of a reminder for those people so we can get an accurate look at the reading levels. :)

I didn't know how else to do it but delete the book and re-add them. Did that work? If not I guess we will just use the default page count number?

Well whatever you did worked, but if there's an issue in the future you can always change the edition without deleting the book from your shelf. On the book page, under the This Edition section there's the More Editions section, and under the pictures of the book covers there's link that says Show All Editions. If you click that it will pull up every edition of the book and all of the other editions buttons will say Switch to this Edition. This way you can easily switch to whatever edition it is that you read and puts the correct page count for you. :) It'll reflect that change on your shelves.

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Anna - You have one book on your shelf, that you hadn't added to the spreadsheet. I noticed it was your first book read with a finished date of the 12th. Was just wanting to make sure if it was supposed to be added to the spreadsheet or if maybe you hadn't added it as it didn't qualify for the challenge for some reason.

message 68: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Wow we're a pretty quite group so far, anybody have a favorite book they've read to start? :D I've enjoyed my series books as they've all been in series I'm deep into, but found myself most surprised by The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, #1) by Alexander McCall Smith . This was a random pick up for a challenge needing a book set in Africa, not something that had ever been on my radar, but was actually quite charming and really more about the characters and African than some big deep mystery.

Hey! I'm pretty sure that I finished that one before the challenge actually started. I read that one in the morning. Let me fix that shelf. :)

🌻 📚 Nichole 📚 🌻 | 16 comments I was definitely quiet this week and I apologize. It was a crazy week for me! Reading has been slow, but I have been reading an ok book Kill for Me, Kill for You by Steve Cavanagh and one that I struggled to get through. The Trials of Lila Dalton by L.J. Shepherd

I have next week off, so I am hoping to get some good books read!

Bernadette, The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix is on my never ending TBR. I may have to read it sooner rather than later if you are enjoying it!

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Needed Letters!

Hey team - real quick update on how we're doing letter wise; because there's a few we're short on that we should try to focus on this week to complete our spell-outs. We're estimating 9 spell outs; and we can't move on from one to the next until it's complete. So to get there we need:

6 more Os (yikes!)
5 more Ss
4 more Ns
and
3 more Is

We have all the other letters planned; although it might be nice to have an additional U just in case we push into that 10th spell out. ;)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Sorry that was me. I forgot to take the filter off of me looking at what O books we have. Should be something everyone can adjust in the future fyi though. If you look at the little 3 line triangles next to the headers of each column, if one of them is in play it turns into a little funnel looking thing with a square around it and to readjust it you just need to click on the filter that is in play and tell it to select all again and click ok.

EDIT: Ok you guys may not be able to unclick my idiocy in my sleep deprived brain.🤪

Ok so I'm spending the morning playing spreadsheet mistress...

Anna - Can you please make sure that Shattered Dreams and The Beast and the Bookseller are on your shelf? :) I also added the other books on your shelf to the spreadsheet, but if you could fill in the letters that would be wonderful.

Ariel - Could you please add A Demon's Horns to your shelf?

Nichole - Could you please add Cleaning the Gold and Tender is the Flesh to your shelf?

Lovely job people!

They will run from the start of the next round through the end of the mini challenge.

Ariana | 147 comments I didn’t join anything or volunteer for anything and stumbled across this. Can someone explain what this challenge is for?

message 91: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Catherine wrote: "How does the Mini challenges work. Will they choose one theme and let us know or is it up to us to choose?"

So the mini challenges are a way to earn extra points with any book we read for the rest of the rounds. Every book can be used for 1 mini challenge task in addition to its use in the spell out. Not every book has to be used in a mini challenge. It's just a chance to gain some extra points. Some people like to really dive into finding books that fit the mini challenge tasks, some people don't. It's helpful if you're not reading for a specific task to keep you eyes open to see if it fits one of the mini challenge tasks, some of them are really easy to find books for, others are harder. As we get the spreadsheet updated if there are books you know will fit for a given task we'll have it set up so you can claim a task ahead of time. I will probably try to put together a list of all the potential tasks at the top of the team thread as well.

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments NEXT ROUND

Also we've gotten our phrase for next round its...

LEAKING PIPES

Well we'll get away from the obnoxious O's and U's. But we'll need a fair number of I/E/P's

Will we have a place on the spreadsheet to mark that a book fits a mini challenge, and which one etc?

message 94: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Ariana wrote: "I didn’t join anything or volunteer for anything and stumbled across this. Can someone explain what this challenge is for?"

Ariana - This is a team challenge for which sign ups have technically closed. It's a long running challenge, in this case this one runs for 8 weeks so they do accept reserve player sign ups if you're interested in joining. They do try to get the reserves a spot if possible. Check out the Thread HERE for the rules of the challenge and the sign up sheet is there as well.

Yes. I've got to get with Vicky over the next couple of days to make it all pretty and get it added, but we definitely will.

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Letters Update

Ok so as of right now we've read enough books to have finished 4 rounds through our phrase and be about halfway through our 5. We had originally projected a potential 9 trips through our phrase. I'm not sure with the couple of days left that we'll hit that, but can maybe get towards a 7th trip through. With that in mind we have enough of all of our difficult vowels. It's only after the 7th round where we might start to be short vowels. :)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Spreadsheet/Mini Update!

Hey team, I started working on a tab for the mini challenges today, you'll find it under "Mini Challenge Log". I'll be in and out working on it throughout the day and fancying it up; but it's ready enough to start entering books in!

If you claim a book, let's put the main reason for the claim first in the reason(s) box and then if your book will also work elsewhere we can do additional info in parenthesis. Not sure how much shuffling we'll do here so don't feel obligated to go nuts adding information, but every little bit helps (especially for the books that have multiple food options!).

Alllll the way to the right there's a suggestions/options column so if you've recently read something you would recommend OR if you're like me enjoy searching for books that fit tasks but have no hope of ever reading all of them... feel free to add some them to that column for someone to adopt and read!

I also went through and highlighted a handful of the tasks in red. I don't think any of these are particularly hard tasks, but they either need a little coordination (the series sequences in the garden mini) or feel like they would be things that we might not easily stumble across. So for anyone that likes to target specific tasks - there's your list. ;)

Remember that any books you've already started can work for the mini so long as they aren't finished before the round change over tomorrow, so if there's something you're in the middle of and know you won't finish before the deadline - feel free to add it!

Also remember that any books for the mini still need to count for the spell out for the round it's read during; so if it doesn't have any relevant letters for Round 2 it might be better off as a suggestion/option that we can compare to letters in the next round.

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Friday Evening Update

Just did a full update/double check to make sure we have everything accounted for going into the end of the round.

For anyone that has met their cap - please continue to add books you're reading to the spreadsheet. Unless you read a shortie with an important letter; we'll likely use the highest page count books you've read... just to eek out a few more points. ;)

The round ends in 20 hours and we only have one hour to get the official spreadsheet updated. The official sheet will be locked and we will not be able to add books after that hour; so please make sure to update your books before then and let us know if you'll be finishing up a book at the wire or if you're done for the round.

@Ariel - I noticed Missing Since Monday on your read shelf; I see that it's childrens but it does meet the word count requirement so we can use it if you want to add it to your shelf and the spreadsheet! :) Also if you could please add read dates to A Demon's Horns & Time for You.
