Bella The Bookworm (bellabuchanan) | 397 comments I’ve been dying of sickness since Thursday. I keep having coughing fits and once I stop coughing my heads starts and stops hurting really suddenly. My nose is stuffed also. Do y’all have any tips on how to deal with sickness? I have to study also do homework while being sick. I’ve tried drinking tea, I’ve tried taking ibuprofen, and I’ve been taking cold medicine and using cough drops. Little helps. Can you guys please help 😭

Heer ☽ (inactive era due to uni) | 354 comments Alright pls remember I'm indian and these are all desi cures that I've implemented on me and they work (for me)

1. Take meds + cough drops + a good cough syrup that works depending on the type of cough routinely like for 2 days or 1.5 days
2. Take steam, use a facial steamer, in the west people use it for pores and shit but take a towel, cover ur face and dig ur face in, my mom and I and our fam, we don't even use steamers, u can use a bowl/vessel + if you can bear it, add a bit of vicks vaporub to it, helps with cold and headaches, minimum 5 mins and make sure you sweat !
4. turmeric milk every night before u go to bed while u r sick or if you're lazy, some turmeric, salt, hot water, mix, make a mini shot and chug
5. sounds disgusting but try to get ur nasal mucus out as much as u can, you'll be able to breathe better

peke | 68 comments I usually just sleep! I take the time when I'm sick to relax and just put academics behind me. Usually I just have some me-time and watch a musical or comfort show. When I'm mentally at ease, I tend to get better quicker physically. Take this with a grain of salt, though, as I don't tend to get sick and when I do I usually recover really quickly, no matter how severe.

Benji | 180 comments I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling this way! Here’s a bit of advice that could help ease your symptoms and hopefully make studying more manageable while you're sick:

Stay Hydrated: Drink lots of water, herbal teas (ginger 1/2 tsp in chamomile tea can be soothing), and broth-based soups. Staying hydrated helps thin out mucus and keeps your throat moist, which can reduce coughing fits.

Steam and Humidifiers: Try inhaling steam to open up your nasal passages. Taking a hot shower or placing your face over a bowl of steaming water with a towel over your head can really help. A humidifier in your room can also keep the air moist and ease congestion.

Rest as Much as Possible: Your body needs energy to fight off the illness. Try to take breaks between homework sessions, even short naps, to give your body time to recover.

Chamomile tea with 1 tbsp Honey, 1/2 Lemon, & 1/2 tsp Ginger: It can work wonders for soothing your throat and helping with coughs. Chamomile is also known for its ability to promote relaxation and improve sleep, which is essential when your body is fighting off illness.

Saline Nasal Rinse: Use a saline nasal spray or rinse (like a neti pot) to clear out mucus from your nose, which will help relieve sinus pressure and stuffiness.

Cough Remedies: In addition to cough drops, you could try a spoonful of honey—it’s proven to help with coughing, and it’s all-natural.

Break up Studying: For homework, try breaking up tasks into smaller chunks with plenty of rest in between. Don't push yourself too hard; your health should come first.

Talk to a Doctor: If the symptoms persist, it may be worth checking with a doctor to make sure it isn’t something more serious, like a sinus infection or bronchitis.

Vitamin D from the Sun: Vitamin D can help boost your immune system, making it easier for your body to fight off illness. If you're up for it, even just 10-15 minutes of direct sunlight can help your body produce a good amount of Vitamin D. Try to spend a little time outside, even if it’s just sitting by a window with sunlight streaming in.

I hope you feel better soon—remember, your health is the top priority!

Benji | 180 comments The essential oil I forgot: Adding Eucalyptus oil to your humidifier can be incredibly helpful when you’re feeling sick, especially if you’re dealing with congestion and coughing. Eucalyptus oil has natural antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and decongestant properties that can help clear your airways and make it easier to breathe.

Vicks VapoRub can have similar effects to eucalyptus oil, as it also contains eucalyptus as one of its key ingredients. It works by releasing menthol and eucalyptus vapors that help to clear nasal passages, reduce coughing, and relieve congestion.

Bella The Bookworm (bellabuchanan) | 397 comments Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it. I’m staying home from school today so while homework is still gonna be a priority, I do plan on laying in my bed all day and starting Gilmore girls 😂

GigiGarside1422 (gigigarside1422) | 159 comments That sounds like a good plan!

Benji | 180 comments My brain~storming led me back here...

Snack on Vitamin C-rich Foods: Incorporating fruits like oranges, kiwis, and strawberries into your diet can boost your immune system, helping you fight off the illness faster.

Use a Sauna: Sitting in a sauna can help clear your sinuses and relax your muscles. The heat promotes sweating, which can help flush out toxins, while the warm, moist air opens nasal passages.

Light Physical Exercise: If you're up for it, gentle exercise like walking or stretching can boost circulation and enhance your immune response. Just don't overdo it; listen to your body.

Gargle Salt Water: Gargling with warm salt water can soothe a sore throat and help reduce the bacteria in your throat, giving some relief from throat pain and swelling.

Probiotics: Eating yogurt or taking probiotic supplements can improve gut health, which is closely linked to your immune system.
Probiotics can also help prevent some respiratory infections.

Zinc Supplements: Zinc has been shown to shorten the duration of colds when taken early. You can take zinc lozenges or tablets, or eat zinc-rich foods like nuts and seeds.

Get Some Fresh Air: Even though you're sick, fresh air and a change of environment (if possible) can help clear your mind and might give your lungs a bit of relief from indoor pollutants.

Eat Garlic: Garlic is a natural immune booster, thanks to its antiviral and antibacterial properties. Add fresh garlic to your meals, or take a garlic supplement to speed up recovery.

Pouring salt into a warm bath with eucalyptus oil can be incredibly beneficial when you're sick. simply add about 1-2 cups of Epsom salt or sea salt to a warm bath and soak for 20-30 minutes. It's a soothing and restorative way to support your body when you’re feeling under the weather!

Adding essential oils to your salt bath can amplify its healing and soothing effects. Here are a few essential oils that can enhance your bath experience and help you feel better:

Eucalyptus Oil: This oil is great for clearing congestion and supporting respiratory health. The strong menthol scent helps open up airways and relieve sinus pressure.

Lavender Oil: Known for its calming and relaxing properties, lavender can help reduce stress and promote better sleep, which is crucial when you're sick.

Peppermint Oil: Peppermint has cooling and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe headaches and muscle aches while also providing relief for congestion.

Tea Tree Oil: This oil has powerful antibacterial and antiviral properties, which can support your immune system and help fight off infections.

Rosemary Oil: Rosemary is great for improving circulation and relieving muscle soreness. It can also help with mental clarity, which is useful if you're feeling foggy due to illness.

For a bath, mix 5-10 drops of your chosen essential oil(s) with a carrier oil (such as coconut or almond oil) before adding it to the bathwater. This helps disperse the oil more evenly and avoids skin irritation.

Eucalyptus Shampoo: Similar to using eucalyptus oil in the bath, eucalyptus shampoo can help clear sinuses and invigorate your scalp with its cooling effect.

This is everything that comes to mind, I wish you a speedy recovery.

Benji | 180 comments P.S Açaí helps me with my headaches especially those after waking up from naps. Although this practice isn't backed by science...

There is the Sorbet form as well as the smoothie. Both do the body & mind justice when feeling underneath the weather.

Cassandra 🍁☕️📚 (blondie2611) | 567 comments Not sure if you are suffering from allergies, but the Navage does wonders for your sinuses and allergies. It’s like the upscale Neti pot. Vitamin A drops get rid of sore throats. 1 drop for 3 days only. Also tea with honey helps with sore throats. Drink a lot of fluids especially water will help thin any mucus in your system. Taking a hot shower with no fan on, the steam will help as well. Of course plenty of rest!! I hope you feel better soon!
