FALL 2024 READING CHALLENGE

I’m going to age myself, but when I grew up I would get excited to circle everything I wanted in the Sears or JC Penny Christmas catalog, that’s how I feel when the new challenges come out. I have a notebook and write down each challenge and then go through my physical books and ebooks and the Libby app and find which ones I want to read and make a stack.
Happy reading!!!

So glad you like it Danell! :D
Catalogs were great. Reminds me of my younger days. Shopping online isn’t the same.
Let me know if you want to do the random and I’ll post your 5 titles in this thread.
Happy Reading! :D
Thank you! I also look forward to these reading challenges, they have expanded my scope of reading.
I'll look over this and select some books next week. Maybe even Monday since I have Labor Day off.

Are the 5 coming specifically from the Want to Read shelves? I use quite a number of bookshelf tags for books I've read.

You’re welcome, Dustin! :D
Always look forward to seeing which books everyone chooses.

That’s what I was planning unless you want me to focus on a different shelf.

Pick one of these 5 titles:
1. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by Victoria Schwab
2. The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld
3. Finding Me by Viola Davis
4. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
5. Defending Jacob by William Landay
Can’t wait to see which one you choose. Look forward to hearing your thoughts on it. Hope you enjoy it! :D

Awesome choices!! Thank you!!
I highly recommend The Invisible Life of Addie Larue. I'm actually planning to re-read that book soon.

Question about task #4, S-L-O-T-H
Does the word THE count? Because if so, this is super easy and I'll be reading 5+ titles just on this one task.
Thanks.

Okay, I will try the Random Task. I have over 1100 To-Read books added since 2009. I've noticed a few of them I have read a different edition, maybe I accidently added the e-book to read and I don't do e-books, but might have read the printed version. Anyway, go ahead and let's see :-) Good Luck!

I love this group too.

Thanks Rachel, I haven't read any of those five. I'll look at them and post back here.
I am currently reading Brooklyn by Colm Toibin, with an Irish setting this book was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize (task #5). I will be rewatching the film soon.

I will probably watch the film after I read the book. I've enjoyed most of the Cormac McCarthy books I've read, so I hope I'll like No Country for Old Men.
I am also considering Blood Meridian, or, the Evening Redness in the West. I've been wanting to read that McCarthy title for some time and with the wordy subtitle, it works for S-L-O-T-H.

I've started re- reading The Invisible Life of Addie Larue (S-L-O-T-H) and will finish in the next day or two. Still very enjoyable and impressive on a second read :-)

Here's my five suggestions for you to choose one Rachel:
- Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
- The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers by Samuel Burr
-How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie
- Freckles by Cecilia Ahern
- Such a fun age - Kiley Reid
Once you've decided I'm down to my reading notebook as well. There's a page for each of your seasonal challenges :-)
Reading Notebook. That's impressive. I used a book journal until 2009 - when I joined Goodreads.

I’ve been meaning to read all of these for a long time. I’m going to go with The Kind Worth Killing.
Franzi wrote: "Ohhh thank you. I'm going to go with Ken Grimwood, that's been completely off my radar, great choices!"
I've read Replay by Ken Grimwood and own a copy. It is pretty good and I recommend this choice.

Thanks for the update, Danell! :D

I'm currently reading No Country for Old Men. This book is only 310 pages and I'm about halfway through, so I'll probably finish on Friday. As usual, I'm using an audiobook and following along in print.

You’re welcome, Danell! :D
I loved that one on audio-she has such an incredible voice and she reads it with so much emotion.

Hope you’re enjoying it. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it. :)

Great to see you post Christine! Glad your husband’s health remains stable from when we spoke last. I was worried when I didn’t see you on gr this month.
