Ok--It's time to take nominations for our next series read! We just started When Gravity Fails, which is excellent, but that's a trilogy, so its time to start nominations for our next series!

Sirantha Jax
Laundry FIles
Revelation Space
Chanur

Right off the bat I'd like to nominate Iain M. Banks Culture series! Although it is a little long, ALL of the books are stand alone, so group members can plus in for the books they want!

The First is Consider Phlebas

message 3: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Have we read the Expanse series? If not I'd like to nominate that.

We've already read Consider Phlebas, so Maggie do you think we would start with Player of Games if Banks wins?

I think the same goes for Revelation Space, we've read the first book in that series so I wonder if we should start with the second book if it wins. and we're currently the first book in the Laundry Files series.

conundrum!

Scott Oh, I didn't see it in the bookshelf.

Edit: Oh, there it is. Didn't realize the list alphabetized by "the..."

they mention Wake by Sawyer WWW: Wake which I am unfamiliar with - so I propose it (a trilogy i believe)

message 11: by Scott (new)

Scott www:Wake was okay, kind of felt like a YA novel. I'm ambivalent about continuing that but you never know.

Agreed.

you all--if you abbreviate things I don't put in a link, I probably wont know what youre talking about

Sorry Maggie. The books in the Chanur series are: The Pride of Chanur, Chanur's Venture, The Kif Strike Back, and Chanur's Homecoming.
I think this series is a natural trilogy. The middle story was split into two books -- I presume by the publisher.
There is another Chanur book, Chanur's Legacy, but it is a separate, next generation story.

Can I add my support to the Expanse series by the duo James S.A. Corey which starts with Leviathan Wakes.

message 20: by Laz (new)

Laz the Sailor (laz7) @Clyde: my sailing catamaran is named "Hilfy" and my first kitty cat was named "Tully". When I win the Lotto, my big sloop will be called Baji-Naji (Foreigner series).

Heh. Great names.

Rion (orion1) | 87 comments You all read my mind. Was planning on starting Chanur series soon, but since it was already seconded I'll second starting again with the Culture series with The Player of Games.

I read the trilogy. I enjoyed it. It is not great but kept my interest. I would not classify it as YA - much deeper than the typical YA.

I've read the fist of the Chanur series and liked it. I agree that it would be a good next series and therefore will refrain from nominating another!

message 25: by Metaphorosis (new)

Metaphorosis (metaphorosisreviews) L. Warren Douglas' Arbiter series. The idea is clearly lifted from Jack Vance's Connatic (Alastor series), but I like Douglas' series despite that - it's a very good trilogy of approachable, interesting SF with solid but not overwhelming science and likeable, characters.

message 26: by Metaphorosis (new)

Metaphorosis (metaphorosisreviews) Or John Christopher's Sword of the Sprits series. I loved this series when I was young, and still do - one of my all time favorites.

ok, Sword of the spirits was definitely YA, so I did not put it on the poll.
Poll is now up!
