Exactly, Jean. It would feel like school if I were to consult the dictionary or do research or write down a list of characters. I'd do all that for a special book, but my PIFM book is simply not the right one.
Even though I really liked The Black Dahlia and probably suggested it for you, I agree you should not waste your life on a book that is hard for you.
Thanks, Kirsten. Though I like the English language, sometimes it happens that I cannot get into certain aspects of reading that a native speaker of the language will coast through. Such as the jokes in Stephanie Plum books, or Victorian romance books, or Huckleberry Finn etc.
So, you're not a native speaker? Wow! It looks like you understand it very well. I'm always impressed at people that learn English as a second language. Remember the first rule of English: there's an exception to every rule!
Kirsten, it's possible that Luffy's one of those who write and speak English better than they read it.Which means he or she's def. NOT a native speaker. As a percentage of population more people knew how to read, write and speak English before, during and immediately AFTER the war for independence! And this INCLUDED the immigrants!
Sad, isn't it?
For the record, I'm a he. And I live in the same country I was born in. I'll probably call it a day now. Catch up with everyone tomorrow.
Jean wrote: "I just started my May pick, Birdman. I'm not too far into it yet, but at least now I know where the title comes from. This is going to be a good one, I think!"Nightmares, Jean, nightmares! And there is more to the book's name but no spoilers here!
Okay, I'm not sure if this is where to post this, as I'm really good at doing a post where I shouldn't, BUT, I just want to wish all the mum's out there, the most wonderful Mother's Day, I know for some it will be later than mine, but just want to brag that my beautiful daughter made sure mine would be special, made me wonder why the hell I decided to move so far away, I miss my babies so much!!!

Amber wrote: "My previous post wasn't meant to offend anyone, least of all you, Luffy."No offense taken. :) I found the post obscure, but it was harmless, of that I'm sure.
Done with my PIFM read for May Trunk Music by Michael Connelly. Good one! Thanks for the votes. I was going to read a couple more on the PIFM May list, but one of the books I've had on my TBR shelf for a while now, just came in. It was a book Secret Sanction not at the library so I had to do an interlibrary loan order. It came all the way from Florida (to Colorado). Wow, didn't know they did that. I thought they would cancel my request if they couldn't find one within the state of Colorado. Too bad they didn't send the sun with it. It's been raining a lot the last few days.
I'm not finding many JAG like books. Military and courts. I'm really big on those. Of course, because I am a military brat, watched all the episodes of JAG and fell in love with Harm. :D If anyone knows of any more like this, send 'em my way.
Last week I turned in a Christmas gift of a coupon book the boys made me (and Mazie). haha. I love having more than one child. I can double the coupons! lol Good for:House Cleaning
A home cooked meal (this should be interesting)
TV remote, all the movies I can handle, comes with popcorn.
1 hour of their undivided attention to talk about stuff.
5 Hugs per kid.
And...give Mazie a bath, brush and teeth cleaning, comes with treats. She's queen for a day!
My birthday is Monday so I will be treated to a nice steak dinner at Outback Steakhouse and homemade birthday cards, complete with cake, ice cream and lots of hugs. OHHHHH I just love my life. :D

It was an off-the-wall lament on the way American education has deteriorated since the Colonial era... .
Pat: Thanks.
Freda: I'm a bit jealous. Not gonna happen for me.
Finished my May PIFM. Thanks for your votes and just an excellent book I will recommend to everyone.I Let You Go

Freda - that sounds fabulous! and I love the gift coupons you got. Wish my kids would do something like that!
Freda - you get quadruple coupons, I'll bet, because tomorrow's Mother's Day! So double-good wishes to you! Your boys sound really, really special.
Jean wrote: "Freda - you get quadruple coupons, I'll bet, because tomorrow's Mother's Day! So double-good wishes to you! Your boys sound really, really special."Oh I'm just so proud of them both. Now you probably recall me saying they have special needs? Some of the coupons will be 'supervised' coupons *ROFL* as I will be assisting them with Mazie's "Queen for a Day" and some of the cooking but all in all, I'm just looking forward to the next couple of days, spending time with them and getting more hugs in one day than I've gotten all year. *puffing out my chest with pride*.
Pat - Hint to your kids about a coupon book for Christmas. It's interesting to see what they come up with for coupons. The funniest one I got was: Wash and brush mom's hair.
This was because I took them with me to get my hair done one time and when the girl was washing my hair and brushing it, I was humming in sheer happiness of the scalp massage. Hence, the idea for the coupon. I was laughing so hard at their description of the hair salon scene that I almost peed my pants. :D
Amber - I'm sorry it's not happening for you. Do you have children? If not, I hope you have friends close enough to celebrate some special times.
Here's wishing all you moms out there a beautiful Mother's Day tomorrow.
Freda - I will cut my daughter's bangs and she will paint my nails. That's our exchange but I would love for her to come cook dinners.

Freda, that coupon book is so precious and worth all the gold in the world. Happy Mothers Day and happy birthday!
Yes - happy Mothers' Day, moms! First time without our moms for us both, having lost them six months ago, but we know they are pain- and sorrow-free, so we remember them with love. Best wishes to all who have lost their mothers (or children) also.Cheers to all the Pet Moms out there too!
Happy Mother's Day to ALL mums wherever you're celebrating in whatever capacity. Have a good one.
Happy Birthday Freda.I think today should be Happy Women's Day as all women give love and care to someone including our 4 legged babies!!!

I am starting my PIFM book today, The Woods by Harlan Coben. I have been looking forward to this one.
Won't have time today but threads for June will go up tomorrow, all being well. Hope you've got your lists ready!! ;-)

No and no.
Janet: It happens. I'll just repost my list from PIFM May, with proper renumbering, of course, and the addition of a new 10th book. Worked fine this month because it was just a repost of my PIFM April list.
Kirsten wrote: "What you could do, Luffy, is pick the #2 PIFM book if you had to quit the #1 PIFM book."I honestly haven't thought of this option. I'll have to decide. If I comply, I'll read the book by the end of May, such are my priorities.
I've had a bad headache today and my daughter has been off sick from school last two days. She probably won't be in tomorrow either. Sorrrreeeeee everyone. I feel bad about it. :-(
Sorry you and your daughter have been sick, Janet. You are off the PIFM hook. Get better sooooon, Girlfriend!!!
I am so behind in My reading!!! I have yet to start My May PIFM. Does anyone else get behind???? I am having My house remodeled which will be a long process and now I have become easily distracted!
Behind? Never! Kidding, of course! Better to stay caught up with the "must do" chores and not stress out about what you "should" (e.g., WANT to be doing - like reading) Reading is for relaxing, not for causing stress!

BEHIIIIIND! Geez, I have had a house full for a week. I am trying to read the several books with my book pal and the two picked by "pick it for me" friends. In the mean time, my cataract surgery revealed that my right eye is near sighted and will require glasses. Now, I am reading with an attempt at closing my right eye until my new diagnosis is completed.I don't generally complain, but my reading addiction is suffering.
Lisa, I had to skip my March PIFM book and never read it. I felt great after making the decision to skip it for lack of time.

Christine wrote: "Lisa, I had to skip my March PIFM book and never read it. It's not like my middle school English teacher is in this group. (I hope not, because, as I recall, she wouldn't think reading thrillers would be appropriate for a young lady. She certainly didn't think science fiction was.)

I believe it will be fine, eventually.,,,,although, I do not leave my home without a book.
