Probably Horror: a book where a mans evil father died and leaves him a toy bear or something with the fathers soul inside it

My fiancee was telling me about this book he read when he was younger about an adult son who was estranged from his evil father, and then the father died and leaves the son a toy. But the fathers soul is somehow inside the toy and he tortures his son through the toy. It sounds amazing and I would love to find him a copy but he can't remember the cover or author or anything
