They own physical copies of the books that they scan. They loan them to one member at a time, for only one hour at a time. They are a non-profit library. How can this be a violation of copyright laws?

I have signed the petitions. And Open Library used to have borrowing times of something like three weeks but changed to only one hour borrowing times after publishers made a fuss.

I noticed that a few weeks ago; I thought it was only for the particular book I borrowed.

No, it is for every book now. You can renew the book immediately (although that does not always work) but it sure gets annoying when reading longer books.
