That's the first one, Elise, and I thought it was very suspenseful. I also enjoyed the two sequels. We watched the Swedish TV series, it was better than the Daniel Craig movie.

If you haven’t read Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, give it ago, you won’t be disappointed. Also, anything by Neil Gaiman is a good bet for fantasy, especially Neverwhere.

The first one feels a bit like being on a walk-through of somebody’s dream. The next ones are a lot better, with more plot focus and less of Roland roaming around aimlessly.

Some of my hall of fame reads have been Kate Atkinson's Life After Life, You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle, And The Band Played On by Randy Shilts, To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis, and Shannon Hale's Austenland.

Do you have a particular itch you are trying to scratch?
