Reader | 3 comments Hi! I’m very new to this, desperately looking for help! I read all of the instructions so hopefully I do this right. I read this book about 1-2 years ago, it should be fairly new. It was about a boy and a group of friends, in this book his mom kind of neglected him and I think she had a boyfriend that was also known. This boy got cards in the mail that had addresses on the back, the addresses led to “tasks” for him to complete but he ended up “saving” someone each task. I feel like he had an abusive type mom that didn’t really care for him. At the end of the book he finds out who was sending to letters, I can’t remember the significance of this person but I feel that he didn’t mean harm. I feel like I remember the mom threw away one of the cards and was questioning him about it, why he was so upset she did that or something. I know the boy told his friends about it and they weren’t too happy about him doing the tasks, one of the first tasks they drove him and wanted to leave, they felt it was unsafe. The addresses were on playing cards. I remember one of the tasks was saving a daughter and a mom from an abusive husband that was drunk and would r*** the wife. Another one was about an old lady and he pretended to be her husband because that’s who she thought he was. Another was him hanging Christmas lights for a family.

Reader | 3 comments Also, I read a lot of Colleen Hoover, but I don’t think it’s her. This could’ve been something I read in school I can’t remember! It’s bothering me so bad!!!

Charlotte Mccash | 90 comments I believe this is the book “I Am the Messenger,” also published under the name “The Messenger,” by Marcus Zusak. The main character gets cards that lead him to addresses where he’s supposed to figure out a way to help people.
