They are all from different genres and I like them all for different reasons that make them unique.

message 9: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments No newly published books, but lots of rereads due to a lack of interesting novels.

My favorites this year:
- The Lie Maker by Linwood Barclay
- AWOL on the Appalachian Trail by David Miller
- Eine Heimat hat der Mensch by Utta Danella
- In den Waeldern der Biber by Franziska Fischer
- Angels Fall by Nora Roberts
- Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks
- All the Colors of Darkness by peter Robinson
- Woodswoman volume 1 by Anne LaBastille
- WIN by Harlan Coben

So 9 books out of more than 60 books which I have read this year were worth 5 stars.

I just wish publishing houses would finally publish better novels again, so I can buy books again.
But instead they focus on dystopian and fantasy novels and their crime novels are often way too graphic for me. :(

I wonder where the good books are hiding? Neither do I find them at the public library nor in BOOK PAGE magazine nor at Barnes & Noble.

I know how you feel. Fantasy and Romance seem to be really popular at moment.

I only tend to purchase books from charity shops so I myself am not very up to date on books that are popular.

This year I have read classics such as:
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen,
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde,
Treasure island by Robert Louis Stevenson,
and I have just finished Dubliners by James Joyce.

I love classics but historical fiction is probably one of my favourite genres.

I'm at the point where I read anything and everything and some times that can go really well and other times I don't enjoy it.

I hope you discover some good books soon.
Happy reading:)

Cassandra 🍁☕️📚 (blondie2611) | 151 comments Some of my favorites this year is
One Dark Window Duology by Rachel Gillig
Powerless by Lauren Roberts
When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker
Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli
Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

Malissa (malissa1578) | 163 comments Butcher & Blackbird and Leather & Lark.
Both by Brynne Weaver and the first and second book in the trilogy.
Extremely graphic and spicy. Trigger warnings all over the place.
Read at your own risk lol.

Good to hear from you, Diana,

I used to read lots of historical novels way back in the 1980's and 1990's, "Forever Amber" by Kathleen Winsor, "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell, "Into the Wilderness" by Sara Donati and the Daughters of England series by Philippa Carr (20 volumes about the same family starting in the 1500's up to the 1960's) as well as the Angélique series by Anne Golon were my favorites.
But since then historical novels have changed so much that it's hard for me to find any compelling ones. I got bored with volume 1 from "Outlander".
Barbara Erskine and Susanna Kearsley are the only ones I still read today.

Unfortunately I never enjoyed reading the classics, I tried Charles Dickens and Thackeray and Austen, but it's just not for me.
I enjoyed some of Alexandre Dumas' novels though.

I like contemporary novels by Sloan Wilson and these days by Douglas Kennedy.

I guess all I can do is reread my 1.500 own books. :)

Cheers,

Chrissie

I will definitely take a look at the books you mentioned.

I try to read out of my comfort zone and love finding new books.

Sometimes it is good to reread a book, because you notice different things from the first time.
You also look at things differently as you get older so it can give a book a whole new meaning to read it at different stages of your life.

Thank you for sharing.

I'm not as brave as you and don't read any more out of my comfort zone.
Maybe that's why it's so hard to find newly published books?

For what it's worth, I believe in you.
If you start a book and you just aren't enjoying it then don't read it. Move straight on to your next read until you find one that suits you.

It is easier said than done. Especially when reading is all about comfort.

It's hard at first and take my word for it, you will read books you dislike and you will question why you even left your comfort zone, but eventually the right book does come along and you start to love genres you wouldn't of thought you would.

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments My favorite genres are movie books, (auto)biographies, crime/thriller/mystery novels, romance novels, historical novels.
However, I just can't get into dystopian, SciFi and fantasy novels. Manga is also not for me.
