Roald DahlCharlie and the Chocolate Factory

The first book I chose to write a review on is “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl. This book has won multiple awards. This book is at the top of children’s literature, and is extremely popular, worldwide. “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” tells the story of a young boy named Charlie, who comes from a poor family. Charlie wins a golden ticket to tour Willa Wonka’s magical chocolate factory. The illustrations in this story were done by Joseph Schindelman. The pictures in this story show an extremely accurate description of Charlie’s adventures, and the emotions behind each character. This book can be read in many different formats such as hardcover, paperback, e-book, as well as audio book. Some strong points for vocabulary in this book would consist of the imagination that this book would create for a child as well as the creativity enhancing vocabulary to be open minded, and think about what Charlie is experiencing throughout this book. This story is written as a narrative, which makes this book extremely engaging to the readers. The only weakness of this story pertaining to the way it is written, is some readers might say that this book is extremely predictable, which might bore older readers. While reading this book in terms of including diversity, I believe that this exposes children to the themes of kindness, as well as honesty. Also, including the fact that Charlie lives in a small house, and with a poor family, with multiple of his relatives living in the same house. This story does lack cultural as well as ethnic diversity. This book is appropriate for children ages 8-12. This book has so much potential to be used in an educational and classroom setting. For example, this story can be used to discuss themes as well as good behavior versus bad behavior. This book could also be used to incorporate lessons about inventions/inventors.
