She travelled and the setting was suddenly isolated. And there were so many things we didn't know. And still are. And because so many things were kept mysteries it started to irritate more than intrigue. I wanted to know more but we got so little information. I liked romance even though it was lacking some building up. It was easy to understand why he loved her but she was a bit too attracted because he was a new person to her. I don't know. I liked this book, I really do. And this was something different and that was so nice. But at the same time I think this was a bit long thinking about how little happened. (hide spoiler)]

First quarter. As often happens, finding the opening slow going so have dipped in and out and not got very far. Don’t understand why Raeve is doing what she is, or why people are out to kill her. Hoping to focus on it and try to get more absorbed (doesn’t bode well though).

Second quarter. Up to ch45. For such a skilled killer she seems to find herself in dangerous situations with remarkable ease.

Third quarter. Now the diary entries make more sense. The dragon involvement is moving more to the fore, though we still don’t know why Raeve has the bond she does. It’s definitely become more interesting now I’m focusing solely on it, but I still don’t understand all the fuss.

Finished. Took a lot longer than I was expecting to really get going, and even now I’ve finished I’m struck by how much it seems to focus on setting up what I imagine to be our focus for book two.

Don't know if you're persevering with this. It took me far longer to get underway/into this than I was expecting. It did pick up, but I'm not sure I get the fuss about it.

The scene where she daydreams she is a dragon and can almost feel the beat of wings as she gazes at the sky is going to come back around later in the story, I feel.

I really don't have any other opinion cuz almost everything is just dragging and dragging, there are less character depth to every character so everything just becomes too bland,.,.., which is ironic because this is over 700+ pages, which makes it have much room for character depth but the only focus of this is probably just the worldbuilding—which i think won't be effective if the characters themselves are not fully thought of.
