TanjerineStella | 1 comments I read the book around 2010-2014, target audience was preteens/teens. It might be older than that but not newer.

The main protagonist is a young boy from our world who accidentally is transported to a magical world and is trying to get home but ends up helping the kingdom. The two other characters that are in the travels with him are; a young girl about his age, and an older man in his late 20s to late 30s maybe.

He’s instructed by a parent to help his neighbor, I think because he threw a baseball and broke the neighbor’s window. He finds the neighbor weird and unusual.

He sees his neighbor riding a horse and chasing a young girl about his own age. He chases after them assuming the girl is in danger.
All of a sudden he finds himself transported to another world, the girl had the ability to transport to a magical world and back but only during a certain moon phase. So he has to wait until the next full moon/specific moon phase.

He goes on an adventure with the man and young girl, since only sticking with her can guarantee going back home.

Some details I remember; at some point they end up in a tree but instead of leaves on tree it is sparkly cloth or silk, he tries to tear it off thinking it would be easy but it’s very difficult and he becomes embarrassed.

I vaguely remember that there was group of small children with poisonous arrows (I could be misremembering that part) that were attacking the trio and they are on a raft of some kind going down a river.

It is revealed in the story that (view spoiler)

There was an evil advisor that sends the man to a coal mine(or some type of hard labor) before he is rescued and the truth is revealed.

I also remember at the very end the boy is talking to a dwarf about “having a green thumb” and he explains that in his world it means being good at plant care.
