Thanks Kat.

Rachel, it's okay if you do that, but you will need to declare your personal and author pages every time you sign up for rounds (just like if you are an author like Cat/Sass who has multiple pen names that need to be checked.) That way the moderators and other members can check your shelves for clashes to avoid problems with Amazon. Can you please post the link to your personal GR page now so I can make sure we can still move forward?

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Rachel, that profile is set to private. You'll need to change your profile status so that it's a public profile so your bookshelf can be checked by moderators and other group members.

I just made it public

Thank you so much! We are still good on order :)

Looks like we have 7 out of 10 checked in. We just need to hear from KT, Cat and Ian and then we can start.

K.T. Munson | 175 comments My bad on the delay, I'm on a later time zone! I doubled check and am all set!

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Eleanor, are you able to access the PM system via the click down method on author pages? I can't seem to do that on anyone's pages at the moment...

Wondering if this is a temporary GR glitch.

This will sound odd but I tried a few and some I could and some I couldn't - and some I could the first time I tried but then I couldn't.

My money is on a glitch, therefore, and might it be better to give GR a chance to remove the gremlins before we progress?

message 63: by Kat (last edited May 24, 2024 07:54AM) (new)

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments My thinking exactly. Thank you, Eleanor!

We need to get Cat/Sass and Ian checked in. And once they are confirmed, we will wait for GR to get itself sorted with this small bug, and then proceed. Thanks, everyone, for your patience!

message 64: by Dave (new)

Dave Saari | 157 comments Kat: FYI, I am able to send a message by going to a user profile and clicking on the three dots. Maybe GR changed the method for messaging?

Dave

Dave, are you using the app or the web/desktop version? I don't see three dots. I see the down arrow by the "follow author" like it's always been.

I think something buggy is going on. When I tried to post reviews to GR yesterday, the drop down menus to assign reading dates were having the same issue.

We still need two people to check in before we can start as well.

message 66: by Dave (new)

Dave Saari | 157 comments I was using the app, which I hadn't tried before, for sending messages.

message 67: by Dave (new)

Dave Saari | 157 comments Also, I just checked, and apparently, my message didn't get sent anyway. So never mind my kibbitzing ...

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Rachel wrote: "do the people we're waiting on know 👀"

Good question. I messaged one person I'd messaged previously through old messages in my inbox, but messages may not be getting sent if the system is having problems.

Eleanor, I sent you a test PM as we've communicated before. Could you please let me know if it goes through?

Thanks for your patience, all. Hopefully they get this resolved quickly. :)

message 70: by E.M. (new)

E.M. Swift-Hook | 3487 comments I received your message and have replied to check they are travelling both ways, so those of us who have previous comms seem to be working.

I just tried the profiles of three authors, including you, and the down arrow is still not turning into a menu for me :(

message 71: by Kat (new)

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments I got your message. Thank you :).

Thank you, everyone for waiting a bit while this gets resolved. Usually GR sorts its issues fairly quickly.

message 72: by Ian (new)

Ian Welch | 71 comments I'm good to go. I intend to purchase the books I am assigned to read once the lists are confirmed. Thanks

message 73: by P.J. (new)

P.J. Ashton I've checked and I'm able to message everyone on the list

message 74: by Kat (new)

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Yes! It appears our issue with messaging is resolved. Now we just need to hear from Cat/Sass, and then we can start.

message 75: by E.M. (new)

E.M. Swift-Hook | 3487 comments Yay! All down arrows now turning into dropdown menus again for me too!

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reads/reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their readers in a format the reviewer can manage.

Everyone must be able to provide and accept PDF. You may buy or borrow the books you are due to read if you wish, and I’m sure the author will appreciate the verified review, but IT IS NOT COMPULSORY. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines.

All reviews must be posted to GR. We also encourage members to post on Amazon. When you have posted your reviews, please post the links to each of your reviews, not the book page in this thread.

The mod of each round will record whether members have posted reviews on Amazon and for the good of all, members who persistently fail to post reviews or DNF reviews to Amazon, will find mods less than willing to add them to subsequent groups.
Postings to other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.
To exchange book files, my advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum).

Setting up and modding these rounds is a labour of love, with a lot of emphasis on the ‘labour’. If you want to show appreciation for all the hard work we admins put in for the group, you could download one of our books as a ‘thank you’.

Happy reviewing, everyone :)

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments GUIDE FOR THOSE NEW TO THESE ROUNDS.

Quick 'start-up' summary for anyone new who might be scratching their heads. You are reviewing the four books 'below' you on the list.

You can, of course, choose to buy any or all of the books or read the books on KU, if you are a subscriber and the books are available there. If you can buy it adds weight to your review as it gives the 'Verified Purchase' stamp on Amazon.

However, as not everyone can buy, you should PM the four people who will be reviewing you (the four above you on the original list of names) through their Goodreads author pages. Click on the down arrow beside the 'Follow Author' button under their picture and it opens a menu which will allow you to message them.
Ask what kind of file they would like or say you can only offer PDF.
Don't forget to ask where to send it so they can give you their email.
The four people who you are reviewing should be in touch with you in a similar way.

Please make sure you have exchanged ALL FOUR books - or have been assured by your reviewers they will buy your book or read it through KU - as soon as possible.

Some people read fast and it can be very frustrating to have to wait a long time to get hold of a book you are committed to review.

Don't forget to post the links to your reviews here so you can be signed off for them.

Please post your review to Goodreads, your own Amazon store and any other Amazon stores you might have access to as well.

I will be modding this round. Please PM me ongoing with any issues. Thanks.

Amber Daulton (amberdaulton) | 50 comments This may be a silly question, but is it okay if I post my reviews early? I have a break in my writing schedule coming up, so I'll be able to read/review all four books in about a week.
Thanks!

I'm sure Kat will confirm, but that is fine. I used to do it myself a lot, read through all the books in a week or two, but nowadays I seem to be quite a bit busier so I need a bit more time to get through them.

message 91: by Kat (new)

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Yes, please feel free to post as you finish your reading! The one thing that will help me is that if your Amz reviews post after your Goodreads reviews, please post the link in a separate post.

Sometimes Amz reviews post right away, and sometimes they can take up to 10 days to 2 weeks to go through. I check things off in the thread as I see them, but I don't comb back through old messages, so I will see a fresh post, but not an updated one from 2 weeks prior.

Another tip is to please shorten your Amz links and post a "clean link" by removing everything after and including the letters "ref" in the review link. This will remove your personal identifying information.

Here is an example of a clean link, shortened correctly:

https://www.amazon.com/review/R1M0VL4...

Hope this helps! :)
