Tara | 194 comments Thank Emily, no worries, I have plenty to read. I'll see what I can get my hand on first and give it a try!

Ari (moochew12) | 159 comments hi rossy.
I've never done this before so kinda hard to figure what what you may like. according to goodreads we haven an 80% similarity which is good.
Let me know if none of these spark your interest. I mostly followed what you said in your about me..
1. Separate Beds by LaVyrle Spencer. I really enjoyed this book, and it has a nice story behind it along with some romance. I thought maybe it'd be a good change for you...not sure if you'd like it though.
2. Naughty Housewives by Elizabeth Scott. Crazy title lol. But, i've read an excerpt of this and it seems up your alley. Possibly. She's a great young-adult author also.
3. My Horizontal Life: A Collection Of One-Night Stands by Chelsea Handler. This is a memoir some hated it, some loved it. Seems to be humorous also...
All of these might be a little different than what you are used to but I hope you like on of them. If not let me know, I can find something else!

Ari (moochew12) | 159 comments Sorry for double-posting! D=
Tammy,
Thanks so much for the book recommendations! These look like an interesting change for myself. I think I'll either try Evermore or Hunger Games. Will add all to my to-read list! Thx again.

booklovinrn | 346 comments Corrupt,

I looked through your shelf and noticed you like several different genres. I am recommending several and hope you find something you like. (Hope this isn't overkill)

1.Undead and Unwed This is a quick, fun read and the first of the Betsy Taylor vampire series.

2.The Darkest Night I noticed you like paranormal and vampires. This is a paranormal but instead of vampires it is about ancient warriors who possess the evils of Pandoras Box.

3.Full Moon Rising This is another first in a series. The lead character is Riley Jensen, a dhampire, half vampire half werwolf.

4.Something Borrowed This is another quick read from the chick lit genre.

Thanks, Ari. I'll read Naughty Housewives by Elizabeth Scott, it sounds like quite the hot read.

message 106: by Tammy (new)

Tammy | 43 comments Hillary, thanks for the picks, i am having problems picking which one,but i think i will read Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost ,and then i will read I'm the Vampire, That's Why (Broken Heart Vampires, #1) (Signet Eclipse) by Michele Bardsley . It looks interesting so i am going to read both. Thanks again

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Library Lass,
I'm almost done with Bet Me. I picked it up yesterday while shopping with my wife. I got about a chapter in and realized that I had read this before. But since I didn't remember it enough to know what happens, I decided to read it again. Well, obviously it is a romance novel so you know what is going to happen, just not how. I have no idea when I read it or where. It wasn't in my reading logs anywhere. But you are right in that it is a book I would like.

I hope this doesn't break the rules if I read this anyway as my You-Pick challenge book.

message 108: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyfraser65) | 772 comments Thanks Karyn. All done with A Wayne in a Manger. Not my normal cup-of-tea but it was hilarious. I completely related to Storytime (chapt. 4) I often have a child like Dominic when I am attempting to read stories to the littlies at work. Thanks again.

Photojim - Re-reads are perfectly acceptable as far as I know for these challenges. And I'm glad you re-enjoyed the book. It's one of my favourites of Jennifer Crusies. =)

Angie (angiecannon) | 10 comments Hi Melissa (So Cal Gal)

Sorry this took me a couple of days...I have been out of town. Since I am late I decided to give you two choices from two of my favorite books

Perfect by Judith McNaught
or
Too Deep for Tears by Kathryn Lynn Davis.

I hope you like one of them!

Melissa | 1245 comments So, I just finished Like Water for Chocolate and I'm sorry to say, it just wasn't my cup of tea. It had a sort of fairy tale telling going on, but it was a bit confusing at times and the recipes were a bit distracting. I was doing okay with the story though until the very end and it just went over the top. Has anyone seen the movie made based on this book? After reading this, I'm not sure I'd care to relive it, live and in color though.

Actually you may like the movie better than the book.

While it's one of my favorite books, that probably has to do with reading it for the first time when i was younger. Not to mention the recepies as well as some of the events go a bit over the fantasy side.

I think for many it's more the romance factor that makes the book really good. It's another version of Romeo and Juliet with a better ending, i think.

I agree with Rossy. I read the book when I was 18, maybe 19, so my idea of romance & idealism was very different to what it is today. I hope to re-read the book and see if I still have the same high regard of the book. I don't remember much of the movie, but do recall enjoying the book moreso than the movie. Maybe that's telling you something Melissa ;-)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments I haven't read the book, but I've seen the movie and my impression was that it was "disturbing".

message 116: by Melissa (last edited Nov 07, 2009 11:18AM) (new)

Melissa | 1245 comments Now I feel like I have to see the movie, just to compare. It's like a train wreck, I can't look away! "Disturbing" describes the book as well, Yz.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I've seen the movie but not read the book. The food is a bit sensual, but the movie itself is a bit hard to follow.

message 118: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (last edited Nov 07, 2009 10:38AM) (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Obviously the book is filled with magical realism, an artistic style that is common among latin american writers, like Isabel Allende and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

The most vivid scene i have from the movie is when they burst into flames while in the bedroom. That was pretty "strange". Then the wedding scene were everybody cried after eating the cake.

One of these days, I'll probably get around to reading the book. But I'm too steep in my trashy pulp books to go literary high-brow sometimes...LOL.

message 119: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1245 comments Well, in the book, everyone throws up after the cake! It was disgusting in the book. Is that how the movie ended? With them bursting into flames?

message 120: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Well the food is supposed to have some sort of magic touch, and what the people who eat it feel has a lot to do with the heroine's emotions while cooking.

If i put aside the family influence and structure in the era for which this story was written i can tell you i would have hated the hero. Not to mention the heroine would have been qualified as a doormat. But since this was a time where we used the matrimonial sheets on the wedding nights, the characters fit in.

message 121: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments To be honest, Melissa, I can't remember if that was the ending. I saw this movie like over 10 years ago. This was when I was going through my latin american authors phase...LOL!

Hmm...maybe I should check it out again.

Yeah that's how it ended. I believe the h/h both ate some matches(?) and burst into flames while making love. Supposedly the flames were so strong that it set the whole place on fire burning the stable(?).

message 123: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1245 comments In the book, when they climaxed together, she pulled back from "going into the light" so that she could have more time to love him, but he didn't, so he died. She then ate candles to ignite the flames he started in her and she died so she could join him in the afterlife. That is what I believe burns everything down. I was okay with her moods and emotions affected the food. I was okay with most of the magical stuff, but the end was just too much. That and her sister riding off into the sunset having sex in the saddle.

I didn't mind the family dynamics. I understood it for the time they were living in that that was the way things were. That was the only part I enjoyed. I liked getting behind the main character and getting angry for all of the bad things that happened to her.

I have to give the book credit for making me think about it so much! And look at all of the discussion! I'm definitely going to see if I can borrow the movie from the library.

message 124: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Tosca, I read Night Shift over the weekend. At first I was afraid I might not like it all that much. The beginnig was a little unoriginal, but in no time I got sucked into the story, the were dude was yummy, Kismet likable and demons trully demonic, so in the end - I had fun. Which means another series to follow and put into my TBR, but that's ok, I welcome it.

So thanks Tosca for the recommendation! Thanks a lot.

message 125: by FlibBityFLooB (new)

FlibBityFLooB I just finished my Pick-It book (One Little Sin). I enjoyed it enough that I will read another by the author, though it wasn't my favorite historical romance.

I did appreciate that the hero/heroine spoke with more of a Scottish dialect than the last book I read with a Scottish hero :)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Glad you enjoyed it, Steph.

Next to Ward's BDB series, Singh's Psy-Changeling series is my 2nd fave series. A recent addition to the series just got released last month.

Ari (moochew12) | 159 comments Hey Tammy!
I just finished Evermore. It was a really good paranormal type of romance story. I enjoyed the relationship between Ever and Damen, it was a bit of a new romance genre for me. Usually, I read more realistic(y), so that was a nice aspect. I'm glad that she picked to become immortal, otherwise I would have thrown the book at a wall.=P I definitely plan to read the next one in the series. It kinda reminds me a lot of twilight. Except, she's not really insecure, well, at least not in the same way as Bella. Thanks again for the recommendation.

message 131: by Annvelwis (new)

Annvelwis | 671 comments Thank you for your recommendation, Felicity. Any Given Doomsday was ok, but to tell you the truth, I expected something more. Plot was sketchy at best, characters not very likable (or well constructed) and relationships between them seemed rushed and not very believable. Repeted theme of forced sex also wasn't very appealing. That said, I'm still willing to read next book in the series to find out if it by any chance gets better.

message 132: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 15, 2009 06:02PM) (new)

Valerie just finished Scent of Darkness and really enjoyed it. I'm already onto the 2nd in the series. Thanks for the recommendation

message 133: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Hey Ari, thanks for recommending Naughty Housewives. I found the stories really hot and well developed. As this book is an erotica i understood why there was not more character development, but that would have made it the perfect story for me. Overall i enjoyed them enough that i'll be getting 2 more books by the author to read in the future. I'll also make sure i have enough batteries in the house. *__*

Tammy | 43 comments Hi hillary, I just finished I'm the Vampire, That's Why (Broken Heart Vampires, #1) (Signet Eclipse) by Michele Bardsley . I enjoyed it, i thought it was a nice light read and very entertaining i laughed alot. Thanks again. I am going to read halfway to the grave next.

message 135: by Annie (new)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Tara - thanks for the recommendations. I finished Faking It the other day. Nice and light - a pleasant change, and just what I needed with cold-filled brain! And it didn't matter that I hadn't read the previous book - always good.
One day I'll get around to Halfway to the Grave - I've taken it home a couple of times, and read the beginning, but never managed to finish it.

Tara | 194 comments Hi Emily. I just finished Nightlife and while I didn't love it, I am interested enough to continue to the next book. Thanks!

message 140: by Karyn (new)

Karyn (honestbutevil) | 43 comments Kasia, I finished The Wages of Sin. It took some time to get to it because as soon as it arrived in the house the bf danced off with it. We both love it and now he's waiting impatiently for the next.

message 141: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Good to know, Karyn! I had fun with that one myself.

PS. I find it adorable that both you and your bf read the same books ;D

message 142: by Karyn (new)

Karyn (honestbutevil) | 43 comments We usually don't - he'll only read stuff with vampires were animals or game related stuff in it (Halo, game workshop).

message 143: by tosca (last edited Nov 29, 2009 11:40PM) (new)

tosca (catatonichataholic) | 742 comments Melissa - I have a confession to make. I got a hold of a copy of Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson and hated the cover. I'm an inveterate cover judger. I also detest not being able to complete the monthly challenges. Having said that, I put the book off time and again until today, 30th Nov here in New Zealand, I finally sat down and read it (took a day of annual leave to finish my last few books)...and really enjoyed it LOL I work for a public library so being judgemental about books is a real love/hate relationship for me. I try not to do it and can't help myself sometimes. A very shamefaced Tosca says THANK YOU for suggesting this Cinderella-style romance. It very much put me in mind of Rawn's Sunrunner series and I loved her early work :) I will definitely be looking for more in the Tairen Soul series (in fact, I've already requested Lady of Light and Shadows).

message 144: by Tara (new)

Tara | 194 comments Emily, I did, one better than read Nightlife, I read the whole series, just finished it. Thanks for the suggestion!

message 145: by Emily (new)

message 148: by Tara (new)

Tara | 194 comments They truly are, I look forward to the next book.

message 149: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1245 comments Tosca...I know exactly how you feel about that cover! I only read the book because of strong suggestions from reliable sources that claimed I would love it. I am glad you went ahead and gave it a try and enjoyed it.

message 150: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments I also read Lord of the Fading Lands as a Pick-It-For-Me Challenge book in a previous month, and despite the cover, I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline, too.
