I believe I read this within the past five years or so? The main conflict had to do with these high school students trying to manage their hectic, more-jam-packed-than-normal workloads (to get into prestigious colleges) and the ongoing train dilemma. The school itself was very particular about the extracurriculars because they had something of a track record to uphold, and the main characters were actively fighting against it. There might have been some element of romance between certain characters, but my memory is fuzzy. Thanks in advance (and apologies if it's rather vague)!

I don't know what book this could be, but it might have been written about the similar real-life situation in Palo Alto a few years back. I believe the name of the school was Gunn.
