weird detail i remember is that the female heroine sails bare chested because she’s challenging convention and she comments on how it got sunburnt all the time. she has a strong freedom fighter vibe and her plot involves proving herself and fighting for others. she’s not themain character per se (that’s a male i think) but i think she was essential to his plan succeeding. I think she helped/rescued other women freedom too. it could be she was a courtesan or so firs that rebelled? Read it about 10 years ago in english, probably on ereade, possibly part if a series

I'm pretty sure I read something like this. Is there anything else you remember about the woman, did she have scars from her past, some sort of brand or something?

What is her relationship with the MMC?

I don’t remember anything about scars unfortunately. And i think the relationship to the MMC was a platonic one. I’m not sure but i think their storylines are quite separate from one another until closer to the end.
