Melissa | 3779 comments @Natasha- are you reading Ariadne? Will you be able to finish by the end of this round? I’ll mark it on the mini if so.

message 402: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I’m still waiting for my library to get Christmas Cow Bells in. Does anyone have a book that will fit Horn on cover or Takes place on a farm they can read?

I found a Crete book so I’m reading that right now. I’ll have my Idaho book done today.

message 403: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 375 comments opps I did forget, thank you Melissa! will do after work :)

message 404: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments I read Christmas cowbells I can move that to Horn if someone else has some thing for on a farm

message 405: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments The library has the second one but not the first and I realllllyyy don’t want to read them out of order lol.

message 406: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments They reference stuff from the first one so you would have to read them in order. They were decent for cozy mysteries!

Samantha | 507 comments Melissa wrote: "@sam - please add Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice to your book games shelf. Thanks!"

yep, I just did. Sorry, I don't check good reads but a couple times a week.

message 408: by Trisha (last edited Jun 12, 2024 09:22AM) (new)

Trisha | 156 comments I just finished Clear
Ivar didn't live on an official farm that sold anything or produced anything outside of his own needs.

He did live off his land on a very remote island. He did have a cow, sheep, horse and chickens and he had to work the land and have his own crops.
Is this "farm" enough? Would this work?

message 409: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Unfortunately not. It has to be an actual commercial farm not someone living off their own land. That’s already been confirmed by the Mods

No worries! I was going thru everything and didn’t want to forget. Thanks!

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments Loop is chunky despite its length. Its translated from Japanese so its a bit to get through grammarwise sometimes? but I'm almost done and definitely be before the Mini ends.

If we are currently reading books and we move into Round 2, we can still use those for Round 2, yes? Or does the book have to be STARTED after Round 2 starts? Or is the end date the important part?

message 412: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments It says (Only books read during the specified round can be used (“read date” is what counts, not the day you start.) Books cannot be “banked” from previous rounds to use later in the challenge.)
So i think as long as its completed
. in R2 its fine if it is started in R1.

message 413: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments For UNO i usually read all the but the last chapter until the next round starts lol.

message 414: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments Okay great! I thought so but just wanted clarification to ensure I didn't start Warbreaker too early lolol

message 415: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments You are correct. Books have to be used during the round they are finished. They can be started any time after the challenge began :)

message 416: by Melissa (last edited Jun 12, 2024 01:22PM) (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments There is a Arena Battle that will begin during week 2 of the second round. We will have to plan for that during week 1 of the second round but I'm waiting until we've finished the first mini before we do that. LOL

Those books have to be started and finished during that week. We will need to read a total of 10 books during that week as a team (for that battle game). We can start planning that after this round is over because they do have to be specific books not just anything.

message 417: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Roe wrote: "They reference stuff from the first one so you would have to read them in order. They were decent for cozy mysteries!"

I hope it comes in then!

message 418: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments We still need:

Horn on cover x1
Book set in Crete x2 (maybe only 1 if Natasha is reading Ariadne)
Set in Peru, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela x1

Anyone want to take one for the team and read for one of these?? I would read another but I'm already maxed out for the rest of this round.

message 419: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments OHHEY
the cover for Carry On (which I JUST FINISHED) the dragon has a little nose horn! does this count? :D

message 420: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments I read a cute cozy mystery a couple of years ago Who Moved My Goat Cheese? by Lynn Cahoon. Has both a horn and takes place in a farm. I just can't read any more than my idaho book and the horn book I have going.

message 421: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments Nick wrote: "OHHEY

Heck yeah!!

So that leaves 2 Crete and 1 Peru, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela

message 422: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments i found one set in venezuela!

I can take your horn spot in case your book doesnt come in!

message 424: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Absolutely works!! Thanks Nick and Roe!

message 425: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I’m actually enjoying my Crete book :D

So far so good if you like historical fiction and ever need a Crete book in the future lol The House of Dust and Dreams

My library has this on audio so can fit this in

message 428: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments I’ve updated the tracking sheet with my last two books. I’ll probably not be able to finish anything more for round 1.

message 429: by Christina T (last edited Jun 13, 2024 04:05AM) (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments I have a planned book on the SS (Late Bloomer) that I'm not sure I'll get to. Is it ok to leave it as planned just in case I do get to it or should I delete it? I'm nervous to delete anything to be honest. I'm afraid of messing something up.

message 430: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I’m going to move all the currently reading and planned books to the Round 2 tab once round 2 starts.

The book I had for Peru wasn’t 50% in Peru so I’ll wait to finish that one for Round 2. I did find another that my library had on audio book. It’s short so I’ll listen as I update the spreadsheet tonight and tomorrow.

We’re doing such an awesome job everyone!! 🤗

message 431: by Trinia (last edited Jun 13, 2024 04:47AM) (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments I have one book Minotaurs A Technothriller (The Labyrinth Book 1) by John Triptych . It’s set in Crete and obviously has horns on the cover. It is included in Audible plus.
I might be able to squeeze it in before the deadline but don’t want to if someone else has a current read.
I have one to finish today and will check back to see if it’s been claimed. I figure it would be a good back up for Crete or horn either way. (No farm though 😜)

message 432: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments i finished a book with a horn if anyone doesnt get theirs done we have a back up!

message 433: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments We do need another for Crete unless Natasha is reading hers. I’m not sure though. Can you get thru some of it and leave a chapter in case we need it? If you can’t we’ll figure something else out.

Thanks goodness! I still don’t have mine in from the library so I’ll put yours in my spot for now.

message 434: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments I should be able to finish in time, I’ll add it to the SS. By Friday night right? If so then definitely

message 435: by Roe (last edited Jun 13, 2024 11:23AM) (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments Does it switch to round 2 on the 15th or do we have until the 15th? Mid-month challenges confuse me lol

message 436: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3330 comments Roe wrote: "Does it switch to round 2 on the 15th or do we have until the 15th? Mid-month challenges confuse me lol"

Round 2 starts in 1 day 14hrs

message 437: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3330 comments I finished The Bucket list and will have my Crete book done tomorrow

Yep

message 439: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 286 comments Hi, I am the captain of District 7. I'm just here to let you know that I believe our first book of attack is Verse and Vengeance. Have fun!

message 440: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I think all the mini tasks are covered, correct? I could probably get one more short one in if we need anything.

Melissa, it looks like you got daily questions! Yay! Do I need to cover those for you? Or is someone else? Just want to know if I need to start that book so I can be prepared. :)

Also, the battles. (I know we are still focused on the end of Round 1, but I'm a prepper...) The books just have to be started/finished that second week correct? There's no other time issue? Because I'd be happy to read Vengeance in Death to hook on to the above.

message 441: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments I'm almost done with my Venezuela book and then i have one more that's one the sheet and that's it for me unless you need me to grab anything else?

Yep they just need to be read in the second week

message 443: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I did!! I think I’ll be ok. I can post my questions without reading it since I already read it. If there’s an issue I’ll let you know!

message 444: by Melissa (last edited Jun 13, 2024 05:41PM) (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Sounds good Stacey!

We do want to try and limit the amount of letters that overlap and try to keep it as close to 3 letters as possible but that one is tough.

I don’t know if there is anything that starts with Ance

message 445: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2438 comments I did a search and if anyone has a book that starts with Ancestor would work.

message 446: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments Scott Sigler has a book called Ancestor! it only looks mildly disturbing! lol

message 447: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments So the goal is to keep the overlap letters low?

message 448: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Okay, sorry, I read that wrong. Nevermind on that book.

message 449: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Yes that’s the goal. It’s ok it took me a couple times to understand the rules. I thought we had to read the same word overlapping. Basically if both teams read their 10 books then the team with the lowest number of overlapping letters wins.
