There is one book that I read with the class in middle school. It was a mystery genre type of book. A little boy goes missing in the main character's neighborhood, I think he was the direct neighbor to the MC. The MC spends time with his friends looking for clue, then finds out that one of his friends was either responsible or knew about what happened. Something to do with boats and kayaks.
