Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Nothing from me. Cindy’s is a good one.

message 403: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments @Cindy - I like Vengeance of a Mafia Queen better than mine for the ending, especially since we're taking a hit on letters this round.

Going to send it over!

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments This is turning into a nail biting finish 😆

message 405: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Exactly how many hours do we have left? The time zone thing is a bit beyond me sometimes.

message 406: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments We have just shy of 34 hours to finish planning. YIKES.

I added it to the list of timers on the spreadsheet, although I've labeled it as "Arena Battle #1 Reading - START" because a timer for both planning end and reading start sounded like overkill when they're the same time. ;)

message 407: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Thanks. I thought we had less time.

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Spreadsheet Check-In

Just doing a quick cross check of the spreadsheet in case the Mods want us to have our official sheet updated for the weekend.

Ashley - I added The Drowning Woman to the sheet, if you can add the resources for it please.

Cindy - I see B is for Burglar on your read shelf but not your challenge shelf, does this count for the challenge? If so, please add it!

Jax - I added date and page count for How the Light Gets In, please add resources when you can.

Kylie - I added The Secrets of Love Story Bridge, if you can please add resources.

Lucy - I don't see Crushed on your read or challenge shelf, can you get it added please?

Rosina - Can you add Magic Bites to your challenge shelf, please?

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments One More Spreadsheet/Arena Battle Note

If you've claimed a book for the Arena Battle and didn't already add it to the planning spreadsheet, I've added it.

I highlighted all the Arena Battle books in green and entered in their respective mini codes - to help keep the captains organized. You'll still have to enter in pages and resources as you read, but just a heads up that they are on the sheet already. :)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments If we just did Eeny Meeny right back, would it only count as 4? Because technically it’s only 4 but also all 9 🤣 not even sure if it’s allowed to just do the same title? Just not having luck with ENY (I’ve been watching their thread and searching since they mentioned it lol)

message 413: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments There’s a couple books with Enya or Enyo. I’m on my phone and can’t link.

message 414: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments OF COURSE the Enya book that's the first option I find that I actually have access to is sub-100 pages. lol

message 415: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Enya’s Son
Enya's Shadow

Both are available as ebooks

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Kaley wrote: "If we just did Eeny Meeny right back, would it only count as 4?"

Good point - I think it would only count as four! lol

I did ask a question in the captain's group about how to best use a supply drop to help cover an overlap, but I've got to head to bed. I'm sure Shelby will keep an eye on it/have some ideas when she gets home.

We did have some quick turn over times on our last few books so we back to ~8 hours per book, so we have a little time. :)

Pretty grim read by the look.

message 420: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Ok I'm going to submit Enyo's Warrior as it's available on KU and if no one else wants to take the bullet I will. Mostly because I'm stupidly competitive and for some reason I've got it in my head that we are going to win this round. *rolling eyes at myself*

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Yeah, this definately isn't a book for me...I've never come across a book with no reviews either.

Maybe for one of the more adventurous readers :D

Possibly self published.

If you like fantasy it might be a good read.

message 424: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Sorry, no interest in that one for me. I’m badly between my competitive side and my realistic side when it comes to this book battle. My competitive side says read whatever I have to. But my realistic side, which has done that in the past, knows that pushing myself into reading stuff I have zero interest in just for the challenge will lead me into a reading slump, which will overall be more detrimental to the team than any good.

I hear you. But right now my competitive side is winning, so I'm going to start the first book in the series. Because what I can't do is read series out of order.

message 426: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Yeah, my competitive side kicked in on the BOMs this week and trying to get all those sweet extra points for completing more of them 🤣 working my way through the ones that are still active noe

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments I could do Ends of Being, though they’d probably be able to find ING and we’d be using ENDS. Although, if I’m doing the math correctly, this book would put us at 36 and they are currently at 34 and therefore would have to be at a minimum 37 with their last book? (Definitely double check me on that)

message 429: by Shelby (last edited Jun 21, 2024 08:45AM) (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments I've got an option that is kind of perfect. I sent it to Vicky earlier on the chance that I wasn't around when the sent their choice. I'm going to send them The Ends of the World: Supervolcanoes, Lethal Oceans, and the Search for Past Apocalypses as I can get it from my library.

Vicky you had said you're down to take on The Jazz of Physics instead, so I'm good with that or if someone else wants to take this one. I'm fine with whatever. But this pick leaves us with 37pts to their current 34pts and I'm doubtful they can find something for RLD, they'll likely have to go to ORLD as least.

message 430: by Shelby (last edited Jun 21, 2024 09:09AM) (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Alright we are all turned in and locked.

I'll start either The Ends of the World: Supervolcanoes, Lethal Oceans, and the Search for Past Apocalypses or The Jazz of Physics first thing tomorrow on my walk in to work depending if someone wants to take one or the other. I'm also fine reading both as I can burn through both audio's quickly and they fit categories for another challenge. I've also started to read the first book in the fantasy series which shouldn't take me too long as they're not overly long so should be ready to start Enyo's Warrior by tomorrow or Sunday as well.

message 431: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Shout out to Shelby for taking one for the team this round!

And yes, I can take The Jazz of Physics off your plate. I already have it loaded up on Hoopla!

We can start reading in just under 14 hours! Remember we have until the turn over time next Saturday to read these (I added a timer to the read sheet) so please to everyone who has claimed a book - keep us posted if life happens so we can try and get your book covered. :)

message 432: by Catsalive (last edited Jun 21, 2024 01:39PM) (new)

Catsalive | 423 comments Do we have to read them in order or can we all read at once?

message 433: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments The Ends of the Earth is on my TBR list. I don’t have a copy but it’s in the library. Looks as though we have this round covered though!

message 434: by Elisabeth (last edited Jun 21, 2024 03:28PM) (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments PS. ‘world’ is better than ‘earth’

message 435: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments We can read in any order. The only caveat is if we don’t finish all the books our chain ends at whatever the last book is before we missed.

So say we were…

1 Read
2 Read
3 Read
4 Read
5 Read
6 Unread
7 Read
8 Read
9 Read
10 Read

We would only get battle points for books 1-5. Anything after the missed book wouldn’t count towards the battle.

message 436: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Yes, excellent job taking one for the team to those who claimed books this round! I'm a bit scared for the second battle after how ruthless this first round was lol

This was definitely not the best week in the challenge for me to have extremely limited internet access. We are home and back on the grid. I updated the resources for The Drowning Woman on the spreadsheet.

Thank you all for being rock stars and planning this whole battle. Happy reading!

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments What’s with this new layout? Really clumsy.

message 442: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments How do you get to the most recent comments without scrolling right down to the bottom of the first page? And where do you easily see if there are new comments?

message 443: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Did Goodreads make a change? It looks the same to me so far this morning. What does it look like?

message 444: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments The page numbers at the top of the first page along with ‘newest’ have gone. Also no edit or reply to messages. There’s no way I can find of quickly going to the newest messages without scrolling to the bottom of the first page where you can then click on the most recent page number, then scroll through those.

message 445: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Our own page where our reading and read lists of books are all different too. Kind of spread out so you have to keep clicking show more to see another five or six books in the list.

message 446: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments It sounds like maybe there's a glitch and you're seeing the mobile version of the site. What browser are you using?

message 447: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Guys - was just glancing at the spreadsheet (for no other reason than I'm stalling getting on my Peloton since it's too damn hot outside to go for my normal walk, grrrrrr 85 degrees by 10am is just not ok) and I have to say I'm super impressed with our BOM involvement! You guys are rockstars! I think this is the most I've seen any team I've been on dive into reading the BOM's. LOVE IT!
