It was The Happy Ever After Playlist. It was my last book of Abby Jimenez's to read so I should've known based on how much I've loved her other books that if I started it I'd be finishing it fast. lol

Battle 1 Chain
D3 - American Dirt
D13 - The Dirty Book Club
D3-

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments The Battle Planning Continues!

I'm on my phone so pardon the lack of links. As you can see above we have to chain our next book onto The Dirty Book Club.

So we need to find a book that starts (ideally) with LUB but we could also stretch to CLUB. I looked up words that start with LUB and our only options are Lube (or its forms like lubricant, lubrication, etc).

Remember all books for this battle can not be started until the 22nd and must be finished by the 28th.

Any ideas?

message 304: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Yeah, I was looking it up too and not having much luck aside from lube. Another option I saw was Lub Dub Love (on KU) which is good for us only using three letters, but not ideal cuz they could only use three letters in response pretty easily. I'll keep looking!

Catsalive | 423 comments I'd be happy to read Clubbed to Death.

I suppose that would give them an easy 5 letter start with 'death' - I'm not sure how many letters you can use.

There're lots of books starting with Club or The Club - mind you, many of them are erotica.

message 306: by Catsalive (last edited Jun 15, 2024 01:17PM) (new)

Catsalive | 423 comments Here's a good one but who'd want to read it

Lubrication Fundamentals

or, Lubbers Afloat - impossible to find

another great one - Lubricating Grease Manufacturing Technology
& of course - Lubrication for Industry 😂

more erotica, no doubt Lube Job, Lube Job, Lube Jobs: A Woman's Guide to Great Maintenance Sex

message 307: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments I think they're allowed to use as many letters as needed (as long as it's a minimum of 3) but the goal is to use fewer because if each team completes their own 10 books it's the fewest overlapping letters that wins! So that seems like a great option to me since ATH would probably be harder for them to pull off.

Ah! I see. Then I suppose Clubbed to Death would be ok, but that old favourite Lubricating Grease Manufacturing Technology would be better 🤣

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Oddly enough I have The Lubetkin Legacy. I could read it if we want.

message 310: by Bee (new)

Bee (abirbee) | 667 comments Whats required in this mini challenge
I can't find a list to check from

message 311: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments @Snowtulip Ohhh The Lubetkin Legacy could be good. ACY would be hard to match! We'll give it a few more hours for others to pop in before we solidify though.

@Bee - This mini is the Arena Battle. The full rules are here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

But to sum things up we're in a battle with District 13 where we need to form links of at least 3 letters between books to attack. We're currently in the planning stage and can only plan one book at a time as we need to wait for D13 to respond to our strikes.

message 312: by Elisabeth (last edited Jun 15, 2024 04:24PM) (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Can the letters cross words? Eg Could we have, A Cyan Sea to match legacy? I know that’s the other team’s book, and I made up the title as an example.

message 313: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments @Elisabeth - Yes. We can ignore spaces (and other punctuation), we just have to match up the letters!

message 314: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments That’s good!

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Snowtulip wrote: "Oddly enough I have The Lubetkin Legacy. I could read it if we want."

This sounds like our best bet so far.

I was going to offer to reread Lube Job (Big Bull Mechanics #5) by K.M. Neuhold as I love this series, but it's too soon. Hasn't been 6 months since I read it.

message 316: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Arena Battle Update

I'm going to go ahead and toss Snowtulip's The Lubetkin Legacy over to District 13.

We've got 17 more books to plan by Saturday, so that gives us 8 hours to chat about each link which isn't a ton of time. That said for anyone that wants to be involved please try to check in as often as possible as we'll be trying to move this along as quickly as possible! :)

message 317: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Sounds good Vicky!

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Sounds like a plan!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6537 comments Okay we are still debating on the new word, will let you know soon!

message 320: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Just an FYI - updated my tracking posts at the top of the thread with the July BOM's based on the top of the poll voting and the new books in our chain. :D

message 321: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Hey Team - I've been keeping an eye on District 13's thread and while there isn't an official book for their next attack it's looking like they're choosing between:

A Cyclist's Guide to Crime & Croissants
and
Acyrologia

If they go with the first we will probably have to go with ANTS or go all the way back to CROISSANTS because I think NTS is going to be pretty impossible to find.

If they choose the second we'll be looking at GIA so we could maybe find something with GIAnt?

Like I said - not official yet and they could always throw us a complete curve ball; but I do want to cut down our turn around time and I'm about to head to bed so I wanted to get us rolling on the brainstorming/searching part.

message 322: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments ALSO! Please feel free to throw out ideas and participate in the brainstorming even if you can't/don't want to commit to reading the book! Searching is the hard part and there might be someone here who can get the book and wants . read it. :)

message 323: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Glad I’m not the only one who’s been spying on the thread!! 👀

message 324: by Shelby (last edited Jun 16, 2024 05:40PM) (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Oooh I've been spying too and I found a book if they do go with the more likely Croissants (using ANTS because yeah, NTS seems pretty impossible). It's perfect and fits another challenge for me that I hadn't picked a book for.

message 325: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments I'm glad you've found something as I'm having no luck finding anything of interest to me! Lol.

message 326: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 423 comments Found one for NTS that is accessible.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6537 comments We have officially decided to go with the cozy

Battle 1 Chain
D3 - American Dirt
D13 - The Dirty Book Club
D3- (The) Lubetkin Legacy
D13 - A Cyclist's Guide to Crime & Croissants

message 328: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Kylie what's you're NTS? Cause that would be amazing. I've got a for sure for ANTS that I'm good with reading, but if we have an NTS that could be really sweet.

message 330: by Shelby (last edited Jun 16, 2024 08:25PM) (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Girl, that's amazing! It's yours if you want it. You down for me to send them that as our choice?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6537 comments Returned!

Battle 1 Chain
D3 - American Dirt
D13 - The Dirty Book Club
D3 - (The) Lubetkin Legacy
D13 - A Cyclist's Guide to Crime & Croissants
D3 - N'Tsuk
D13 - Sukiyaki, Gospel and Jazz

message 336: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments So, I don't think there are many options that start with "AZZ" (though there are several books with AZZ as its own word in the title, but unfortunately none I could find that start with them! lol.

Here's are some options I found. None of these in particular appeal to me, but hopefully they appeal to someone else!

Jazz (are we allowed to do just a word that's the same letters?
The Jazz Club Spy
The Jazz of Physics: The Secret Link Between Music and the Structure of the Universe (not sure by the rules if this would end with ICS or RSE for them?
The Jazz Palace

Jazz Moon
Jazz Owls

message 339: by Elisabeth (last edited Jun 17, 2024 02:58PM) (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Okay! I found:
A Jazz Retrospect by Max Harrison (1-Sep-1991) Paperback by Max Harrison
Jazz People by Val Wilmer
Jazz Icons Heroes, Myths and the Jazz Tradition by Tony Whyton

All look interesting. Retrospect might be hardest to match?

message 340: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh (ashleighbailey) | 103 comments I am happy to read Jazz Owls

message 341: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments I'm not sure if that one would work (word count looks like it's not enough from what I can tell) which is a real bummer because they'd likely have to respond with four letters with that one!

message 342: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Luu (lovelucyluu) | 238 comments I’m interested in Jazz Moon. I would be happy to read it

message 343: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments I'd be down to read The Jazz of Physics: The Secret Link Between Music and the Structure of the Universe. It's an easy audio and since subtitles wouldn't count they'd be looking at ICS as their letters.

Sounds good !

message 345: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Ok so right now we've got people interested in:

Jazz Moon - Lucy
The Jazz of Physics: The Secret Link Between Music and the Structure of the Universe - Shelby
A Jazz Retrospect by Max Harrison (1-Sep-1991) Paperback - Elisabeth

Unfortunately Jazz Owls isn't long enough - I checked the word count.

Thoughts on which is our best option?

message 346: by Elisabeth (last edited Jun 17, 2024 04:39PM) (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments The physics one, I think. Ics is hard and then it would probably be one letter or back to the whole word. My retrospect book throws up a few ect titles and moon is easy with the 1 extra letter.

message 347: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments I'm good with it. I can get the audio from my library and it sounds interesting. I'll send it over to them now.

message 348: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 68 comments Just checking in to say I’m out of town this week and will have limited internet access and no access to an actual computer. I will check in when I can for planning the battle. Is it okay to wait to add my books read to the spreadsheet until 6/23?

message 349: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Thanks for letting us know! No worries about getting your book on the spreadsheet, go ahead and do it when you can!

message 350: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments I was looking at other teams to see how their book battle plans were going . . . some teams are being much nicer to each other than we are :-P

That competitive spirit is alive and well on our team and in District 13, it would seem.
