This is an informal Buddy Read. -- Anyone can join, pose questions.

BEWARE THE HARE!
Is he or isn't he a vampire?

Before it's too late, Harold the dog and Chester the cat must find out the truth about the newest pet in the Monroe household -- a suspicious-looking bunny with unusual habits...and fangs!

Bunnicula is a children's book series written by James Howe (and his late wife Deborah in the case of the first book, "Bunnicula") about a vampire bunny that sucks the juice out of vegetables.

The story is centered on the Monroe family and their pets and is told from the perspective of their dog Harold. The Monroes find a bunny at the theater where they were watching a Dracula film. Because of this, they name him Bunnicula. Their cat Chester, however, is convinced Bunnicula is a vampire and attempts to get Harold to help save the Monroes from the perceived menace.

Following the end of the Bunnicula series, James Howe began a spin-off series called Tales from the House of Bunnicula, which are 'written' by Howie, the dachshund puppy introduced into the series in Howliday Inn. There is also a series called Bunnicula and Friends. They are a series of picture books about adventures of the characters from the stories. They are aimed for beginning readers. There's also another series, Harold & Chester, that are similar to the picture books, but are slightly longer. (less)

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments I'd never heard of it or the series. I found the book when I was looking to complete the Rabbit Quest.

In future please ask one of the mods to start BR thread for you. It would be a mess if everyone starts to set up threads for their reading. :)

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments I pushed the start date to April 12, 2015. Too much going on. I hope that's ok.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that permission was required.

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments This book is adult funny. I'm finding the vocabulary too sophisticated for kids. Also there's lots of sarcasm. It reminds me of The Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons we had on TV growing up. -- definitely written for adults. What do others think?

Cathy Galloway | 876 comments I thought it was really cute! I loved the misinterpretation about the stake (steak):D I see it's got a sequel too.

Mary (wimew) | 397 comments I thought it was cute as well. I wonder how scared the veggies were. Do you really think the bunny was a vampire? LOL

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments Not that I pay attention to the newer TV cartoons, but this series strikes me as the perfect story line.

Ashley Marie ahhh I need to read this again. I remember it being so good when I was a kid, and I have it on audiobook at home.

I think you're right, Reva. It looks like there are lots of books in the series and the antics of that cat alone could be hilarious.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments I saw this thread in my news feed and had to comment. This was one of my kids all time favorite books! They loved the snarky humor of it.
