Nat | 141 comments LOTR is the usual go to for epic bible like fantasy. Another great series I’ve started is The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart which chronicles the life of Merlin and King Arthur but in a slightly more realistic depiction. If that’s a genre you think you’d enjoy I highly recommend it.
For epic sci-fi not much compares to Dune so far that I’ve found but I would recommend Andy Weir, specifically Project Hail Mary because it’s so detailed.

Simon Frenais | 2 comments Richard Swan's Empire of the Wolf trilogy is fantastic

Haley (hails_yeah) | 9 comments For epic high fantasy - Patrick Rothfuss' Name of the Wind is phenomenal, the only downside is the third book is not been published yet and idk if it ever will be. I also agree with Nat that LOTR is also a good choice in the high fantasy like Game of Thrones.

Nothing I've read compares to Dune at all :(
But if you're looking for good Sci-Fi try Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, it's very original and is an amalgamation of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy.

doowopapocalypse (tomwink) Expanse? Downbelow Station?

Michael Bertrand | 86 comments Brandon Sanderson is a good go-to for epic fantasy. His Stormlight Archive series is ongoing and I think it's very good. He's got multiple series going at once, though, and many of them exist in a shared universe.

The other I recommend is R. Scott Bakker's Prince of Nothing and Aspect Emperor series. Together, it's something like eight books long. They're very grim and very dark, but I loved them.

William Cheney (william_cheney) | 31 comments For high fantasy, you could try Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. 14 Books. It will take you a while to read but it is well worth it. Robert Jordan passed away and Brandon Sanderson wrote the last 3 books, finishing the series for him.

Katie Holder | 1 comments I'm currently on book 3 of the Mistborn Series by Brandon Sanderson. It's a great epic fantasy. I am loving it. It does not have the same type of relationship matter that GOT has.

Meghan | 9 comments Robin Hobbs, the Liveship Traders trilogy.

Bill Jones | 5 comments Another suggestion - have you read the PERN books by Anne McCaffrey? The first one -Dragonflight - started as short stories in Analog Science Fiction Magazine, and are therefore a bit clumsy, but they do set the scene nicely for the follow-ups. The stories and writing gets better as the series progresses.

message 15: by Lisa (new)

Lisa H | 6 comments I love Pern! Always have. Not so sure I like her son's book as he tried continuing the series. But I do love them! One of my goto feel good series. The Harper Hall trilogy is a good into to the series for younger readers. Who doesn't like Piemur?

message 17: by Lisa (new)

Lisa H | 6 comments try some Joe Abercrombie, grimdark fantasy.

message 18: by William (new)

William Cheney (william_cheney) | 31 comments Glenn Cook - Chronicles of The Black Company - 10 books in the series

Prince of Thorns by Lawrence, Mark.

Interesting worlds, gritty.

Rissa (rissasreading) (rissasreading) | 177 comments After I finished reading Dune I read Mickey7 because it felt very akin to Duncan Idaho and what he goes through. It did not disappoint and was honestly a great follow-up to the Dune series

Kristina Kamaeva | 76 comments The Saxon Stories Series by Bernard Cornwell. I loved the TV series, based on his books!
The Last Kingdom

Lauren ₊⋆·˚‧₊ | 1 comments The Hyperion series is absolutely fantastic. The first book starts a little slow but it’s one of the most creative all consuming fantasies I’ve ever read. It’s more science fiction, but it’s still a fantasy series.

Kai's Darling | 660 comments The Cruel Prince, Powerless, The Prison Healer (100000% one my favourites!)
