You can download the files from the Amazon website and then have them on your computer, I haven't yet gotten around to the DRM part but that's on my to do list for very soon.

I already have over 2.5k of those... Can't afford to double that and don't have the space 😆

I know the feeling.. I have had to be a bit more discerning/ruthless in what I keep now. Been slowly going through my books and culling.. either to fundraisers/donations or to the local library.

Ok, anyone who buys audiobooks on audible (specifically the UK branch, but it may well apply to others too).

There are a lot of posts that pop up on the Audible Forum about this on Reddit. They state when rights expire the book is still in your library but you have to manually hunt for it. If you speak to customer service and have them remove and give you a credit for a new version, then it really is gone. No clue as this has not happened to me. but sometimes it is still hiding in your library - it just won't be able to pop up when you "search" for it with the search box anymore since it technically does not exist in the site. Manually you can find in your library when this happens though - but if you get them to give you a credit, it's usually then gone for good.
Here's a thread discussing this issue and when an item is deprecated within audible system -

I use this free software to back up audible purchases just in case - https://github.com/rmcrackan/Libation...

Yes but audiobooks don't work well on Paper form! :)
I enjoy formats e-books, paper, and audiobooks --- but unfortunately something can happen to any of them. It makes me nervous on loss for any of the formats!

A really good option for donating books is juvenile detention centers and prisons (this may be different in Australia). When I started at my school library, we hadn't got rid of anything for YEARS and did a massive weed. We then donated to prisons/detention centers! And another nonprofit that provided books to nursing homes and hospitals!
Also, that is so lame re: audible. I'm going ot have to check my catalog, even though I no longer have a subscription. Normally do audio through my public library these days

Oh, we can tell by that that you are a newbie! I don't want to put you off, but sadly I've never come out of a team challenge with a reduced TBR!
One of the joys (or perils) of a team challenge is the recommendations from your teamies!

Hey, at least any books I discover through this game will be 'new' to my TBR and not 'been-there-God-knows-how-long.' :D

Hehe! that's the spirit!!
We've has tasks in the past along the lines of "sort your want to read list by date added and read a book between 200 and 299".
We had a team ask us what to do since zero people on the team had that many books on their tbr for whatever the range was for the task. Broke our brains for a minute :)

🤭 I remember that Judith!
Just had me go and check my tbr and it has grown by almost 20 books since 1 Jan despite me reading a lot more for challenges 🤦♀️

I've been trying to read down my tbr, too, but it's up by 23 since the first of the year.
So many books....

I'm reading these for the first time too. Just finished Catching Fire so I'm definitely excited for this challenge.

My goal this year is to get my current challenge to read shelf to be under 100 books. Last year the goal was to get it under 200 and I managed that, but I"m currently sitting at around 170 books...the problem is that every new challenge ends up adding books to that list even as I'm taking others off. :-p

Dude! I’d be happy to get my TBR under 10,000! Even if I live to be 100, I’ll never finish! And yet, I’m compelled to keep adding more & more! Why??

Pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism is the ridiculously long word I often think about when asked for a long word.
Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is apparently the longest word in the dictionary - a lung disease caused by inhaling fine particles from volcanos.
Basically medicine loves putting too many syllables together!

Suzanne,
You should know better by now than to throw in such fodder into these threads. Very reckless and irresponsible behaviour. 🤭

So my goal every year is to end the year with less books on my tbr than I started with. So far this year, I'm on about 10 books less in the TBR than I had on New years eve.
I've read 175 books so far this year.
The struggle is real.

NOTE: Initial sign ups have now closed. You can still complete the sign up form to be placed on a reserve list and you will be contacted if/when a space is available on a team.
Teams will be formed and everyone notified over the next few days - keep an eye out on this thread and your GR inbox for more info!

mine either, my TBR will outlive me.

Um, I think we just need to exclude medical words from the honor. They're all clearly made up.
Long live antidisestablishmentarianism!

I like your idea, Sammy. My TBR is getting out of hand and I'm trying to get it smaller little by little. I'll try to make it smaller than last year's.
I go through my tbr list periodically and delete duplicates from giveaway entries and whatever. It occasionally gets my tbr under a 1000 books 😂

I do the same Judith…sort it by rating and purge

I just create separate TBRs for stuff I own vs stuff I don't. The TBR for the books I don't own is pretty reasonable at 430 books (Want to Read shelf). But then there's the TBR for physical books I own which is sitting at 2037 (own-to-read) and the TBR for eBooks I own sitting at 821 (ebook-to-read).
I'm making myself feel better by splitting it into 3 TBRs so it doesn't look as bad.

Yes...I usually sort by rating...I don't necessarily delete everything, but this is my starting point for purging...especially if the book has lots of ratings.

I find anything under 3.4 is pretty likely to be a dud 🤭
