Apologies for this, as I read this a while ago and can’t remember all the specifics. I believe that there were some sentient crows who were the antagonists, as well as there being a magical undending desert with random beached boats dropped in the middle of it.

I read this about 7-10 years ago, and it was relatively new then.
SOLVED!!! I found it after some more extensive digging! Some of my plot points may be a little off, but it is Peter nimble and his fantastic eyes!
