I am going with Saturday by Ian Mcewan because the novel takes place in one day.
I really enjoyed Atonement and have been meaning to read something else by this author.

I think this fits the theme of the longst day because it was said that the sun never set on the British Empire. Which made for a very, very long day.
Plus, the author died and this is one of the few books of hers that I've never read.

It describes 1 day for Ivan in a harsh Soviet camp in the 1950's.

The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld
The enchanted place is an ancient stone prison, viewed through the eyes of a death row inmate who finds escape in his books and in re-imagining life around him, weaving a fantastical story of the people he observes and the world he inhabits. Fearful and reclusive, he senses what others cannot. Though bars confine him every minute of every day, he marries magical visions of golden horses running beneath the prison, heat flowing like molten metal from their backs, with the devastating violence of prison life
Days spent on death row must seem like the longest days on Earth.

Moscow, 2028. A cold, snowy morning.
Andrei Danilovich Komiaga is fast asleep. A scream, a moan, and a death rattle slowly pull him out of his drunken stupor—but wait, that’s just his ring tone. And so begins another day in the life of an oprichnik, one of the czar’s most trusted courtiers—and one of the country’s most feared men.
Welcome to the new New Russia, where futuristic technology and the draconian codes of Ivan the Terrible are in perfect synergy. Corporal punishment is back, as is a divine monarch, but these days everyone gets information from high-tech news bubbles, and the elite get high on hallucinogenic, genetically modified fish.

I Nominate this one too :)

Sorry I have been MIA lately. I will post the poll when I get home from work today. If anyone wants to get in a few more nominations, I will close the thread and post the poll later on.

Please nominate only one book and ensure you either link the book or give the name of the author as well to avoid confusion. Please do not nominate books from a series, unless it is the first book in the series. You can second someone else's nomination, but that will count as your own. Nominations cannot have been chosen for a past group read (past buddy reads are fine).
This thread will be closed by April 22, and we will choose ten books for the poll. If there are more than ten books nominated, we will choose the ten most nominated. If there is still a tie to get into the top ten, we'll go back to the Goodreads average rating to see which is highest.
