I started a bit-- I've got a few books I've started and put down.. Guess I'm in a bit of a slump... (That and I feel guilty about doing things I want to do because I should be studying.. But instead of doing either of those things I'm wasting time on my phone and rewatching a show. I am deep in the dark playground, y'all 🤡)

Ch. 11... (view spoiler)[ The only way I can justify Tyler and Sadie hooking up at this point is because of hormones and living through a deadly experience together... They are not at all good for each other at this time... I don't feel it's a good idea at all...

Up to Ch. 23... (view spoiler)[ A lot of Time Travel shenanigans! Part of our party is in the future, the other is in the past... I am guessing we will be losing some of them, but I am not exactly sure who...

I am with Z on this - it is ridiculous under their circumstances, that Scarlet and Fin should be wasting time hooking up! Magellan is also right - they are nothing but PROTEIN POPSICLES FULL OF TEENAGE HORMONES!

It is kind of sad to see Tyler all jaded and not making jokes or using his weaponized dimples... But I guess having lived through 40 years of war and on the run would do that to a person...

I am not sure how plausible the scheme the kids are concocting to get out of the Temporal Loop is, but I am going to run with it... Let's see what happens... (hide spoiler)]

Finished. So, I enjoyed it quite a bit, but apart from the very implausible science, I wish the ending wasn't so emo! I guess, being a YA series, it was to be expected, but I would have liked a more stable solution, not (view spoiler)[ just "show the scary entity that Love should be Consensual" and hope it learns its lesson... The epilogue was a nice wrap up, letting us know everything is going to be ok. I figured the girl from the future was their daughter pretty immediately, so no shock there. The one thing about books where everyone from the future sacrifices themselves for a possibility of the past being fixed is, that they still all die ... I always feel that really sucks for all of them! I am pretty sure that if someone comes to my door and says - listen, I can make your life so much better, I am here from the past, and I can go back and fix everything, you just need to let yourself get killed right now, I am not buying it! Just saying... (hide spoiler)]

LOL Yeah very much agree with you there about the emo ending 😂 (view spoiler)[ I was hoping the time travel stuff would be a little cooler, but a lot of it was just predictable... Glad Xeela got a happy ending with the founder though (hide spoiler)]

I've been trying to think of other books that used a similar trick for the ending... (view spoiler)[the whole "show them we are people and they will stop trying to assimilate/murder us" thing... finally remembered a few--Children of Ruin and Starsight--though I think that both of those do it better, and that them being middle books means that it is less a solution, and more a process, and we get to see the results of the decision, and that it isn't as clear-cut or simple.
