Before I immigrated to the US, I owned more than 3.000 books. However, I had to limit the amount of move boxes to 127 boxes when I immigrated in 2002. Many of the move boxes contained my 700+ VHS tapes which I transferred in the US onto DVD's.
So I only kept 1.500 hardcover books and did bring those with me to Maine where I lived in the beginning.
Over the years I've read a lot of those 1.500 books and sorted the ones out that I definitely won't reread again.
Now I purchase on an average 45 books per year, because more and more of my favorite authors are either dying or unfortunately changed their topics/writing style to appeal to a 20+ year old audience, so I stopped buying their books.
My husband owns 100+ books, but reads Kindle most of the time.
We have 24 large DVD and book cases all over our house.

Wow, Christine, you impress me by describing your collection. And to move 127 book boxes--whew!
Jocelynn, I'm afraid to count. My husband and I merged our book collection when we married sixteen years ago and we've added hundred of books since then. I'd say we have somewhere between 1,000-1,500. Of those read--we'll let's just say it is a small percentage.

Vanessa, at the time when I decided to move to the US, I also received a small insurance payment from my former employer which covered the costs that the shipping of these move boxes caused. I was lucky. It was good timing!

There are dozens of movie books that I still need to read...one life is too short to read all interesting books.

But I read more from library or ebooks...

In my work bookshelf: I own 153 books, and I am positive I have read about 5 from the first page to the last one. Those books are majorly for consultation.

Then I have several ebook apps, like Kindle- has about 1500 books. The others only a few hundred.
I read about 300 books a year. Most of the books I have physically, I have read. I usually get rid of the ebooks I have read, unless they were fabulous. Like the one I just finished, The Surrogate by Penelope Ward, or any of Nick Petrie’s books.
I only know the number of books I have documented in Goodreads, which is over 1700. But I didn’t join until maybe 2018-2019. So, I have read thousands of books. Started reading back when I was very young and have continued my whole life.
Mostly mystery, historical fiction, thrillers, literary, and romance! I am a book addict. Love reading.

I would say around 800 and I didn't even get halfway through.

However, to beat the reading slump I've been in, I've accumulated quite the large physical TBR pile to select from - this year so far I've added 77 books to my collection and read 35 out of them.
I'm planning to keep everything around until new years to have a visual overview but once the year's up, I will be passing on at least half of these.
