message 6: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I'm collecting books since 1965. I've read more than 5.000 books.

Before I immigrated to the US, I owned more than 3.000 books. However, I had to limit the amount of move boxes to 127 boxes when I immigrated in 2002. Many of the move boxes contained my 700+ VHS tapes which I transferred in the US onto DVD's.
So I only kept 1.500 hardcover books and did bring those with me to Maine where I lived in the beginning.

Over the years I've read a lot of those 1.500 books and sorted the ones out that I definitely won't reread again.
Now I purchase on an average 45 books per year, because more and more of my favorite authors are either dying or unfortunately changed their topics/writing style to appeal to a 20+ year old audience, so I stopped buying their books.

My husband owns 100+ books, but reads Kindle most of the time.
We have 24 large DVD and book cases all over our house.

Wow, Christine, you impress me by describing your collection. And to move 127 book boxes--whew!

Jocelynn, I'm afraid to count. My husband and I merged our book collection when we married sixteen years ago and we've added hundred of books since then. I'd say we have somewhere between 1,000-1,500. Of those read--we'll let's just say it is a small percentage.

Vanessa, at the time when I decided to move to the US, I also received a small insurance payment from my former employer which covered the costs that the shipping of these move boxes caused. I was lucky. It was good timing!

I've read them all, some twice. 99% of the books bought get handed off to my kids or coworkers. I have neither the room nor the desire to collect books beyond what is already on the shelve now.

message 36: by Debby (new)

Debby (lakegirl5276) | 4 comments I own too many physical books, at least several hundred. It seems multiple rooms have bookshelves….
Then I have several ebook apps, like Kindle- has about 1500 books. The others only a few hundred.
I read about 300 books a year. Most of the books I have physically, I have read. I usually get rid of the ebooks I have read, unless they were fabulous. Like the one I just finished, The Surrogate by Penelope Ward, or any of Nick Petrie’s books.
I only know the number of books I have documented in Goodreads, which is over 1700. But I didn’t join until maybe 2018-2019. So, I have read thousands of books. Started reading back when I was very young and have continued my whole life.
Mostly mystery, historical fiction, thrillers, literary, and romance! I am a book addict. Love reading.

message 42: by Vítor (new)

Vítor Monteiro | 70 comments Iown about 600 books, of which I have throughly read (asides partially consulted here and there when I felt like it) almost 200... so far! (Good to be optimistic.)

message 43: by Ineffable7980x (new)

Ineffable7980x | 47 comments I have not counted, but I estimate about 1000. I only keep books that I absolutely love, ones that I plan to read again, and ones I have not yet read. Of the latter category--ones I have not read-- there are quite a few. Optimistically it's about 200, but realistically it's probably closer to 300. I am currently in the middle of a project to read down the backlog. It will take me at least another 3 years, but I will do it.

Jill Bautista | 28 comments I have about 400 books, and I really, don't want to comment on how many books I've read.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

I would say around 800 and I didn't even get halfway through.

message 47: by Gypsy (new)

Gypsy (ignited_red_queen) | 25 comments I own give or take between 700 - 800 books and I've read 487 but I'd say that is a rough estimate. I've honestly been trying to get an accurate count but once I pasted 500 books I kind of keep losing track. If I count my ebooks and audible's I probably own close to 1300 books all together. There are so many apps that track books but I've yet to find one that is easy to load and track of all my formats. If anyone has a good recommendation please let me know.

message 48: by Helena (new)

Helena | 7 comments I don't really have a lot of space (plus other reasons) so for the most part I try to keep books in circulation, with only selected few favorites permanently on my shelves. Harry Potter books, couple of Mark Lawrence series, Perry Mason stories and some other bits, about 60 books total.

However, to beat the reading slump I've been in, I've accumulated quite the large physical TBR pile to select from - this year so far I've added 77 books to my collection and read 35 out of them.
I'm planning to keep everything around until new years to have a visual overview but once the year's up, I will be passing on at least half of these.

message 49: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I used to have more than 3.000 until March 2002, then sold half of them and immigrated with 1.500+ books to the US. - Today I might have close to 1.600 books (I constantly sort out books which were disappointing plus I still order about 45 books per year via amazon.de and amazon.com).

message 50: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I've never experienced a reading slump. I re-read my favorite books if no interesting new books are published like last year and this year. As I read at the most 150 books per year, it takes me 10 years, before I re-read the same book.
