 Quest to Save Easter!

Novel Kingdom is a small kingdom on the edge of Lake Lexicon. It is ruled by the benevolent Queen Skye.

Novel Kingdom is in holiday peril again! The Easter Bunny has been kidnapped by the local tribe of Omnibus Trolls.

HELP SAVE EASTER!

Each section of quests should be completed in order by parts. (i.e. Part 1 must be completed before Part 2 is started.) You have been given a Tote of Infinite Books that can store any book read after April 1st, 2015 for use in the quest at a later point. May 31st, 2015 is the last day to turn in progress towards the quest, after that Queen Skye will call in the knights to take drastic measures.

Levels
Finish Part 1: You have made a valiant effort but the knights have a lot of work ahead of them.
Finish Part 2: You've made a dent in the trolls evil plans but still are facing an Easter without chocolate eggs.
Finish Part 3: You almost rescued the Easter Bunny and with a bit more practice and speed reading could become a knight someday.
Rescue the Easter Bunny! You have rescued the Easter Bunny and saved Easter. The dentists of the realm thank you.

Even finishing one or two parts will give the knights a leg up if they're called in to help at the end so don't feel like you can't help the Easter Bunny. Heroic deeds are a team effort in today's world.

Okay, good. I didn't want the knights to be disappointed in me if I didn't save the Easter Bunny myself. I will be glad to do my part. :)

Teri-K | 4 comments I have a question. I've never done any of this type of challenge before and I'm wondering how "strict" the tasks are. For instance, for the one that calls for reading a book about a chef would someone who makes their living as a baker or a candy maker work? Or should it be a restaurant chef? What about a cook for a household or a camp?

Since this is a single player challenge, I tend to be a bit more loose on the tasks. You're always welcome to ask if you're unsure.

For the chef one I think it would be fine to do a baker or a private chef since they both make their living by cooking.

This is a monthly (2 month) reading challenge. It's based in the same world as the RPG challenge that's going on but doesn't overlap with it. It's very similar to the Quest to Save Christmas that we ran a few months back.

Save Easter Quests - Part 2 Track the rabbit
The local children noticed something large stomping around the forest surrounding the town. They decided not to mention it to their parents for fear that they would be locked in their homes. The guard saw the Easter Bunny along the road collecting eggs for delivery on Easter. Talking to the bartender, you learn of a large troll that's been seen in the local area.

Putting together all your information in a truly brilliant fashion, you conclude that a troll probably has the Easter Bunny. Now, it's up to you to get him back!

Follow the Troll
You figure your best bet for finding the Easter Bunny is to track the troll back to his lair. You do your best to creep along without alerting the troll to your presence.

Read 2 books where there are tracks or something hidden on the cover or where a main character is a hunter or tracker to track the trolls.
1 - Feed (Newsflesh Trilogy, #1) by Mira Grant Feed - finished on 04/16/2020
2 -

Find the Easter Bunny
You managed not to step on any twigs (or at least any loud ones) and have located the troll lair. It's dank and dark and smells of wet troll. You muse that the trolls are remarkably unimaginative but conclude that that has never been an attribute often given to trolls. You see a small box made out of sticks containing the much loved Easter Bunny. You also see a small flock of prose peeps being held captive. You resolve to save them all.

Read a book with a farm animal on the front or one set on a farm or in the country to find the Easter Bunny.

Spy on the Cave
The troll lair is in a cave with a opening not much bigger than the size of a troll. They squat a bit each time they enter and exit the cave. You wonder how to see inside and wish slightly that some sort of x-ray machine exited. Remembering your alchemy lessons you set off to brew a potion of seeing.

Read a book with an eye on the cover, a book with an animal on the cover and a book with water on the cover. Shake and drink to see into the cave.

Quest to Save Easter!
Duration:
4/1/2015 - 4/30/2015

Save Easter Quests - Part 1 Discover the threat
You start hearing whispers of something terribly wrong while walking around town one morning. You hop over to the tavern to hear about the issue. The bartender wipes a tear from the corner of his eye and informs you that the Easter Bunny is missing! Find out all the information you can.

1. Pump the Bartender for Information
You think the bartender knows more than he has said. You slide two coins across the counter. They disappear quickly and the bartender tells you about a local troll that has been terrorizing local villages in the region.
Read a book where someone drinks a lot or is a bartender and read a book where someone pays for something in gold or the book has a gold cover to pay the bartender for information:
1.

2-4. Talk to the Local Children
The local children like to play just outside the gate and might have seen something. You don't want to upset them with the possible demise of their beloved spring hero so you decide to bribe them with a small toy to answer your questions.
Spell out the word TOY using spell-it-out rules to hear what the children saw.

5-6. Talk to the Guard at the Gate
Guarding the gate is a tough job, it's always opening and closing the gate and checking goods and warding off bandits. This day was particularly interesting for the guard since he noticed something off in the distance.
Read 2 books which feature restaurants or chefs to bring lunch to the guard and listen to him talk while you share the feast:
5. Meet Me at the Cupcake Café by Jenny Colgan - ***** - 4/23/2015

Teri-K | 4 comments Now I need some guidance on the hunter/tracker choice. Does this include private detectives and people hunting down an object or person, or only those who are officially hunters - like vampire hunters or animal hunters?

Thanks.

message 44: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments I'd think private detectives would fit since they're main job is tracking down stuff.

As for people hunting down an object or person, I'd base it on whether that's the main point of the book. If it's a military ops book and they're hunting down the bad guy for the whole book that's one thing. If someone's hunting down a pencil they misplaced for a page in the book then that doesn't count. :)

Great. I just read a book where the characters bet each other who could find a missing painting first. Tracking it down was the entire plot of the book. It sounds like it would work, then?
