Chris Nance | 536 comments This month's theme: Stranded or Abandoned

(That's it.)

Paula | 1088 comments Great one, Chris. Really.

I figured I'd keep it simple with a broader theme. Hopefully it will encourage more participation, too.

I posted another image that Thaddeus provided, given I wasn't sure about the copyright thing with the other. Both are great images.

message 5: by Thaddeus (new)

Thaddeus Howze | 88 comments There shouldn't be any copyright issues with any of those images. I literally made all of them using generative AI.

message 6: by Jot (new)

Jot Russell | 1709 comments Mod
Okay, which do you prefer? Should I put the first back up?

message 7: by Thaddeus (new)

Thaddeus Howze | 88 comments Doesn't matter to me. I liked them both. I made the four panel one because of the diverse subject matter. But you can place whichever one you like better. I also gave you two images for the square panel as well, giving you new graphics all around.

message 8: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy Lichtman | 410 comments This looks good too. Looks very Dying Earth, Jack Vance-style.

message 9: by Tom (new)

Tom Olbert | 1445 comments Very moving and timely poem, Thaddeus.

message 10: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (mariannegpetrino) | 436 comments Is this year the 10th year of the contest?

message 11: by Jot (new)

Jot Russell | 1709 comments Mod
That was November 2022. We are now into the 12th year of the contest.

Paula | 1088 comments So the generative AI entity, or its program developer, nor its models, have no copyrights (yet)? Also, is the lefthand image gender-ambiguous or femal(ish) or is the diversity of the image less than it might be? (Super set of images and super collage, in any case!)

Don't think you can copyright an AI generated image or content. And the generation of such content should be based on publicly available data or that owned by the AI company. Obviously, with the news outlets raising lawsuits against them, there is questions about the ownership of the manipulated content.

On a side note, I finally picked up some AI business stock, namely SoundHound AI Inc, which has been going up steadily, on good forecasts by the company, over the past couple weeks. Hoping it continues North.

Making strides in my software language/db system. Porting my Jot crossword game over to it to have a full backend system running from a single language. No AI help at this point, but do plan on generating enough content to experiment in my own learning algorithm. That is still a ways off.

As for the page header image, I would think the person is clearly female...of course "they" might identify elsewise.

message 17: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1088 comments Good work re the stock, Jot. And interesting points re AI and also re the female(?) header piece; thanks.

Mine's up. A bit of a self biography of what only started as a dark period of my life that soon turned to light.

Well written, Jot. Potent and heartfelt.

Chris Nance | 536 comments Okay. Mine's up. Not my best. Just a simple story.

Paula | 1088 comments Offhand, this is the very best collection of stories on this site in the past few years. In my opinion, anyhow. And what a theme---ah, finally just got one in even though it's been a crazy week on top of a crazy month! Truly, I've loved some of this month's stories.
Jack, yours has serious points/power and fine writing, and I agree with Tom re its existential qualieties; also, did you know it has reminders both of PKD's "Watchbird" and Don Marquis's Archy and Mehitabel book?
Jot, what a beautiful, moving piece! Quite wonderful
Tom--a well-written story, and that ending ties it together in a powerful, pointed climax indeed.
Chris, yes a simple story but it does a lot--very, very fine.
Thaddeus, fascinating piece!
Jeremy--cool!!! Maybe could use a bit more exploration but already blows the reader away.
Justin, a wonderful close-in piece that opens up to a well-developed tale of a well-detailed world--finely done!

Haven't read those. I will have to now.

Thank you, Paula. Your story had a potent, tragic quality - reminiscent of Greek tragedy.

Chris, I liked the build-up and the humor. A touch of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - quite amusing.

Justin - Very good set-up and good delivery. It had a melancholy beauty.
