rachel (domingohalliburton) | 7 comments I've only read about 75 pages so far thanks to being busier than I expected to be. I'm reading Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America by Jill Leovy (was 100 pages through when the challenge started). I'll also be trying to read The Explanation for Everything by Lauren Grodstein and Hotel Iris by Yoko Ogawa.

message 52: by Tina (new)

Tina Choy | 51 comments I finished reading three chapters of The Outlander. it's hard to read all day cause I have to work. only chance is on my commute and after I put my kid to bed.

Holly-
Unfortunately, the answer is ADD. :-S

message 54: by NzingaMarie (new)

NzingaMarie | 34 comments 95 pages read between the first 2 days. Finished the book I was working on. Not too bad. Starting with something fresh in the morning. Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Successful People. (Might try to sneak some pages in tonight while I'm still awake.)

message 55: by Sam (new)

Sam Luckily I'm on my days off until friday then I'm back at work. The weather here is lovely so I've flipped between gardening and reading outside. I'm halfway through the vanishing point by Val McDemaid, and 30% through Philomena which I read in bed on my kindle. Hoping to finish the vanishing point today. I'm not sure what I'll start next! I still have three shelves of crime/thriller novels to get through given to me by my in laws.

message 56: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments 304 pages read in the first two days - this readathon has been bringing me back to reading. I've missed it tremendously.

Kassandra, that's an amazing number!

Although I haven't read much so far today, I did go out and buy 3 new books, oops. (blushes)

message 58: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Thanks Holly!

Woot, 3 new books. That's exciting! Which ones did you pick up?

message 59: by Holly, That Geeky One (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) | 1949 comments Mod
Fingersmith by Sarah Waters
The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Very excited to start them. Although I'm still on North and South and Wool Omnibus. Both of which are proving to be really interesting!

message 60: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Great titles! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on them.

I can't exactly say no to 70p books! :P

message 62: by Monique (new)

Monique (monty454) | 130 comments Holly, our local charity shop does them for 25p which is insane, I have to keep checking myself about where I'm going to put them all, so I limit myself to 1 or 2 books only. Just bought the miniaturist.

Have just finished The Rose of Tibet by Lionel Davidson
Now am on The Mystery of the Blue Train by Agatha Christie am aiming for 50 pages a day but am struggling to get it so am doing what I can when I can.

message 63: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Finished The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim. Enchanting indeed!

message 64: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 384 comments A funny story on me for readathon week. Somehow it became Gothic week. I reached my 50 percent goal on Dragonwyck. I found some short stories by Edgar Allen Poe so I read Ligeia. I spooked myself. My husband asked why the laundry was still in the dryer. I said I scared myself and I am not going into the basement laundry room after dark.

message 65: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Too funny, Cindy!

message 66: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Starting The Violets of March by Sarah Jio.

Great story, Cindy! Oh, the power of words!

message 68: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments I started I Hunt Killers today and so far, I'm really enjoying it. It's kind of like a YA version of Dexter. This is a new author to me and if the books keeps up this way, I'll be reading the rest of his works.

message 69: by Marla (new)

Marla Harris | 17 comments Started Wild today. So glad I held out for the book instead of seeing the movie. 200 pages in so far will finish tomorrow.

message 70: by Tracey (new)

Tracey | 916 comments I'm up to 350 pages read for the 3 days in Gone with the Wind. Making quicker progress than I anticipated.

Wow! Everyone is doing so great!

message 72: by megan (new)

megan | 1161 comments I think my coworkers know that I am trying to spend more time reading this week and are sabotaging my efforts. 12 hours work days don't leave much energy for when I get home.

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Argh! I've been there. Stay strong. <3

message 74: by Sammantha (new)

Sammantha (sammylouise) | 37 comments I've been reading all if my old American Girl books that I had when I was little. Thought I'd read them now that I'm older. They are all still fantastic to me. I've read Addy and Samantha. Last is Felicity.

message 75: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Sammantha, I remembered reading these to my daughters and we all enjoyed! Have fun!

message 76: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Oh, yes, the American Girl series was a stroke of publishing genius. Along with The Magic Treehouse series. They really filled a void in children's literature at the time they came out.

message 77: by NzingaMarie (new)

NzingaMarie | 34 comments Started The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People this morning. 100 pages in so far. That puts me at 195 for the week.

I'm really glad I decided to do the readathon. It's really kicked me back in gear and gotten me off of the slow reading slump I was in.

message 78: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Lynnie - I'm so happy that the readathon has helped with your reading slump. It is doing the same for me as well. Are you enjoying the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People?

message 79: by Marla (new)

Marla Harris | 17 comments Finished Wild and met my goal of two books. Not sure what new book tomorrow will bring. Over 500 pages for the week. Most I've read in a long while.

message 80: by O (new)

O (asphaltmonkey) I'm a relatively slow reader, so most of the goals I see here are definitely out of my reach! But kudos to everyone for making such awesome progress (:

I've been reading The Guns of August for a while now, and I was in a little slump before the readathon. But like Lynnie, this, as well as being on vacation, has gotten me to power through a couple of chapters. I'm still some way from being done, but I feel good about the progress I've made.

message 81: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 384 comments Before the readathon I was in a mental slump, maybe having too much of a dyslexic pity party. I took the time this week to have a long talk with myself about what goals I want to set and yes reading is worth the hard work. I reread 10 reasons why everyone should read.

message 82: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Marla, Olivia and Cindy - it's fantastic to head that the readathon has helped you out of a reading slump and get back to what you love. Thank you for the hard work and for sticking with it to participate with us!

NzingaMarie | 34 comments Kassandra wrote: "Lynnie - I'm so happy that the readathon has helped with your reading slump. It is doing the same for me as well. Are you enjoying the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People?"

I am! I've been picking it up and putting it down for months, but this time I'm more engaged in it. There's a paragraph where Covey talks about reading like you're going to teach it to someone else in the next 48 hours. So that's exactly what I've been doing. Just reading the chapter on the first habit, I already have a page of notes :)

message 84: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments That's a good tip, I'll have to keep that one in mind!

I love Readathon chat. Your stories are always so interesting and genuine. Thank you for all the sharing, people. <3

So far I've done 419 pages...

Splintered: p. 204-377 (173 pages)
The Good Natured Man: 98 pages
Eminent Victorians: 100 pages
The Overcoat (Gogol): 48 pages
Valley of Vision: p. 1-55

**Edited. I forgot Valley of Vision, so it's actually 479 pages so far.

message 86: by rachel (new)

rachel (domingohalliburton) | 7 comments That's funny, Renee. I'm at exactly 415 pages as of now! Still finding doing the Readathon this week to be challenging because of being busy and my day tomorrow is nearly packed. If there's one thing I'm learning, it's where the times are that I can fit reading in -- wake up half an hour early, if I get to work early I can read a few pages in the car, etc.

message 87: by Sammantha (new)

Sammantha (sammylouise) | 37 comments I'm onto Felicity now. Found a Samantha mystery I didn't know I had. I should be able to get Felicity done tomorrow. Than Sunday is going to be a surprise.

message 88: by Sam (new)

Sam I finished the vanishing point, now 75 pages into daughters in law.

I have one book left to finish in War and Peace! That's my goal for the end of the Readathon, because while W&P has been a fabulous read I'm really ready to be done now. :P

message 90: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments You can do it Renee!!!

message 91: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Done!
Okay the last epilogue was mind numbing, but the rest of the book was awesome. So glad I finally read it. Sooo much better than I expected it would be.

Holly (hollycoulson) | 1949 comments Mod
Yes Renee! That's a fabulous achievement! Time to celebrate? :D

message 93: by Sam (new)

Sam well done renee, it's on my to read list, I'll knuckle down and read it one day!

message 94: by Tracey (new)

Tracey | 916 comments Congrats Renee! I agree, that last epilogue is mind numbing compared to the rest of the book.

message 95: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Congrats Renee!

message 96: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments I feel sad that the readathon will be over tomorrow, it's really pulled me out of my slump this week. I've averaged more than 100 pages a day, which im really happy with considering all the normal life activities this week. The final push is in - does anyone have any special plans to ring in the end of the readathon?

message 97: by Sammantha (new)

Sammantha (sammylouise) | 37 comments Congrats on finishing W&P. I'm hoping to read that and Gone with the Wind sometime this year.

message 98: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Yes! This could be the year of the chunkster!

message 99: by Tracey (new)

Tracey | 916 comments I finished Gone With the Wind today which I have the readathon to thank for! I wasn't planning on finishing that book for another few days. I was on page 250 when the readathon started, so that puts me up to 787 pages to date.
