► UNSOLVED: One specific book > Bestselling Noir book with a two-word title, perhaps from the 30s/40s, perhaps a female author, that has been widely considered 'unfilmable' or 'impossible to adapt' to film.

Author: Female or female sounding name (not 100% sure)
Year: Classic noir era, could be 30s/40s/50s (not 100% sure)

Two-word, title, best seller in its time. Something about it makes it popularly/widely considered unadaptable to film, even though people have purchased the rights to it and maybe tried to make it into a film.

It was mentioned by a host of Turner Classic Movies on Saturday, February 10, 2024 - they said, 'if you read it, you'll understand why' it is considered not filmable.

The Expendable Man?

Three of Dorothy Hughes novels were made into films, but not this one.
