Lynsey Taylor | 7 comments I remember reading this book when I was a child in the 1990s. Maybe mid-1990s (I would have been about 10 at that point). The book was probably modern. It was a children's fantasy book. The most I remember about the plot was that there were two children who discover a large (possibly magical) gemstone.

The main thing I remember is the cover. It had two children on it (I'm thinking blonde hair) and they are both looking at the gemstone with surprised/shocked looks on their faces.

It's had a ton of different covers.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not it. I'm struggling to remember much, but I think one or both of the children is a girl.

That's the first one that came to mind for me as well.

Capn | 3506 comments Was it a LOOSE stone? Because I thought the weirdstone (view spoiler)...

It's a surprisingly common trope - we made a list of them: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Any other details, however vague, that you can give us? :)

I wish I could remember more about it because it has been annoying me for years. I just remember that I really liked it as a kid and that I'd know the cover if I saw it.

Thanks for the link. I had a look through some of the lists about stones, jewels, pendants, etc., but I can't see it.

Can you remember anything about the context of the book? Book-fair, or library? Maybe we can get a lead that way. :)

Lynsey Taylor | 7 comments I'm thinking like a mysterious castle. Maybe even a period setting, but less sure on that one.

Lynsey Taylor | 7 comments No idea where I got the book, which makes me think it was earlier to mid-1990s that I read it

Rainbowheart | 28705 comments Kinda reminds me of the '80s movie Crystalstone, but I don't think that was based on a book.

Were both children preteens?

message 11: by Lynsey (new)

Lynsey Taylor | 7 comments I'm not sure of their age. I've had a look at the description of Crystalstone and it doesn't sound familiar.

Thanks anyway.

Rainbowheart | 28705 comments Do you think it was a UK book?

message 13: by Lynsey (new)

Lynsey Taylor | 7 comments I can't say, I'm afraid
