SOLVED. child male protagonist who travels around for a purpose and family

I read this book 2018-2019. I remember the wording not being too hard but it wasn't extremely contemporary either. The book is about this 12-15-year-old boy who is traveling a lot and then stays with a family, gets close with the daughter in the house, and eventually has to leave because he feels like there's something more that he has/needs to do. I think he also finds his family at the end. But this part I am unsure about. Hope someone can help! This book was also given to me to read in grade 7 or 8 in Canada, which might say something about the reading level.
