message 5: by hazel (new)

hazel (taylor’s version)🎀💗 | 131 comments NO it just ruins the whole book

message 6: by Tayjah (new)

Tayjah If the plot and other characters are more interesting than I could probably enjoy it. Would knock off a star in my rating tho. However I do like unlikable mc so maybe I would end up enjoying it completely.

message 7: by bookhugger (new)

bookhugger if the side characters are better, but most prolly noooo

message 8: by beej (new)

beej ^_^ | 126 comments nope
I think that's why I don't like shatter me alot like other because of julliete

message 9: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 14 comments Sometimes! If the plot is good enough I’ll still read it, then the annoying character is a -1 star from what I would have rated it 😅

But if the plot is bad on top of the insufferable characters.. then nope it’s a DNF

message 10: by gabs (new)

gabs | 37 comments 99% of the time i dnf a book if the main character is annoying

message 11: by Sunynsf (new)

Sunynsf | 161 comments red queen, I literally didn't like the fmc

message 12: by julia ☆ (new)

julia ☆ it depends, if the side characters are enjoyable then it's mostly fine, but otherwise NO.

message 13: by angeline (new)

angeline (ramblingdaydreams) | 0 comments personally, no. i dnf immediately lol

message 14: by Justine (new)

Justine Yes I can actually. If theres a hot fiction man? Hello

☆*°•Clara•°*☆ | 119 comments If the mc is really annoying I will probably dnf the book but if the mc is just annoying at some times and the other characters are to my liking I will read the book anyways★

message 16: by Kiki (new)

Kiki Hamilton | 22 comments Yes, it just depends on the level of annoying and how much its dwelled on in the book, for example, I thought Katniss was a turd in the first Hunger Games book, but over the course of them she grew on me.

She was still a turd sometimes but also severely traumatized so we can forgive that, and the books ended up being really good.

message 17: by ☆ Teha ☆ (new)

☆ Teha ☆ (tehadivine) | 32 comments ...depends on how annoying we're talking, how quickly they can redeem themselves, and if it's an interesting enough train wreck to watch.

message 18: by ari (new)

ari | 21 comments Yes. only if the plot/lead carries.

message 19: by Paige (new)

Paige | 23 comments yes if I find the story to be good.

message 20: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Pease | 5 comments It depends on if there is a good character arc.

message 21: by Alan (new)

Alan Machek (ableinchrist14) | 13 comments Yes, it just gives me a glimpse into how everybody has their own personality and I try to find out why they're that way and what makes them tick. It's all about learning and seeing things from every possible angle and perspective possible.

message 22: by sky ⋆ (new)

sky ⋆ yes, but the story has to be really good and if they are annoying in a way that they always make bad decisions i will get mad but ill still continue the book

message 23: by ❃A.J❃ (new)

❃A.J❃ (bibliophagist) | 16 comments Mostly not. Especially if it's a character driven book. As for plot driven books, I can enjoy them if the other characters are likable and the plot is good.

message 24: by Claudia (new)

Claudia | 5 comments depending! it just might take longer to get into and see past those negative qualities the MC has

message 25: by Raven (new)

Raven Silverburg (ravensilverburg) | 116 comments I cannot stand pick me MMC and FMC! the whole "I'm not like other girls" or "I'm not like other guys" irks me so much. it's immediately a no for me. I cant look past it and I cannot read past that. immediate DNF for me

ashh ³³ ᵈᵘ ᵈᵘ ᵈᵘ (adiexe)

very very difficult, but sometimes I make read it anyway because of some ✨AMAZING✨ side character
I remember Shatter Me was just so boooooring for me, I only really felt excited when I was reading Kenji's pov or Kenji's novellas
And Shadow & Bone was really boring too it actually took me a total of almost two years to finish that book - then i skipped straight to Six of Crows

message 27: by Anna (new)

Anna Banana | 162 comments if they are literslly insufferable I will have no patience

Valentina | 15 comments I can't deal with that it is just stressful

Victoria ‎♡‧₊˚ (victoriaagosto) | 115 comments Personally no, when main character is annoying it’s when I struggle getting through the book the most

message 31: by Gigi ༓☾✧ (new)

Gigi ༓☾✧ no. I can deal with a dumb but lovable side character but the mc is the one ur supposed to be rooting for, and they're just disappointing when they're the dumb ones

message 32: by raichu (new)

raichu (richierichh) no. i will literally dnf bc insufferable main characters r my biggest ick!!

message 33: by Talie (new)

Talie Sanchez | 49 comments unfortunately yes at times

message 34: by Angel (new)

Angel | 426 comments Yes if the other characters are enjoyable

message 35: by Nowshin (new)

Nowshin | 107 comments nope
never , if I find a main character annoying or irritating then the book also becomes a hard to read or I start to dislike it

message 36: by Mpia (new)

Mpia | 120 comments If the plot and the side characters are good and it has multiple PoV's, then... probably yes
But I won't love it

lilly ♡ (semi-hiatus, reading slump) | 533 comments if the plot is really interesting, i'll read it but if its a pick me or js rly so annoying im out dnf

message 38: by KyoAi (new)

KyoAi ♡ | 778 comments Nope at least considering what happened last time no.

୨ৎ Annie ୨ৎ | 19 comments If there’s character development and depends on how annoying but I feel like if it’s a FMC I get ticked off easier because Im like she should know better and if it’s a guy im like ok he’s a man makes scenes but ima need character development to continue for both

message 40: by Chantie (new)

Chantie | 86 comments Hell nauh! I just got out of a situation like this. The villain had me reading on. In most case, it's a dnf for me. But rarely if I'm interested in other characteristics of the book like a villain or the side character or the plot is capturing enough to have me holding on.

message 41: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Liu | 21 comments Yes if the book is good, but I'd complain about them forever.

message 42: by Vendela (new)

Vendela Åstrand | 30 comments No i can’t 😭 that’s why it took me half a year to finish Things we never got over hahah

message 43: by fixitfelix (new)

fixitfelix (nikolai’s version) | 176 comments i dnf’d red queen because I found mare so annoying 💀

message 44: by Marley (new)

Marley Salter | 19 comments Idk it really depends on if there is character growth i mean i read this one book were i hated the character so much i just wanted to throw the book across the room sometimes but in the end i ended up loving the character sooooo sometimes ig but for the most part no

message 45: by Lianne (new)

Lianne | 113 comments It can be almost painful but most books I read that start off with an annoying main character they usually grow and evolve.

Yeehawwlovesbooks | 449 comments I can enjoy the book but the other characters have to be better in order for me to finish it. I will force myself to finish it but my reviews are honest and will say it all.

message 47: by Asiuol (new)

Asiuol K | 3 comments I can if their annoying attitude is intentional. I need them to change or for their annoying traits to be called out by other characters. If it feels like the author doesn't realise how a character is coming across, I just find it uncomfortable.

message 48: by sophia (new)

sophia | 56 comments no 😞

lilly ♡ (semi-hiatus, reading slump) | 533 comments just read a book with a cocky main character and it was annoying i finished it tho but gave it 2 stars

message 50: by Aleks ♡ (new)

Aleks ♡ (literackiemarzenia) Not necessarily, unless at some point a given character changes due to the influence of another or simply factors that influence it. But it depends. If the plot of the book is nice and the other characters are presented in an interesting way, I may like the book.
