I remember reading this when I was in middle school. The girl was a bit of a loner. She was sent to live with someone -I don’t remember who- she meets a boy and his dog, later you find out that he was drowned as was his dog whom got caught in a “beaver” trap. I remember something also about newspapers. Like she’s a photographer or writer or ???
