I decided to go ahead and reread Unnatural Death, book two of Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries, and it turned out to be really good. Now I'm hooked on the series for a second time, so I'll be starting The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club. It's amazing what I've forgotten since I haven't read these books for years.
Also really, really enjoying The Birthday Party -- what starts out as a bit of small family dysfunction in an isolated hamlet in France has turned into something dark and downright sinister.

Way back when, the BBC did a series based on the books but they tend to put me to sleep. Also, Lord Peter, who I believe is like 37 in Unnatural Death, looks like he's in his late 50s in the TV version. I was thinking that he should look more like Peter Davison when he played Albert Campion -- even the personality fits.

Small Mercies
by Dennis LehaneThis novel, set in South Boston (Southie) revolves around the 1974 judicial decision that ordered Boston public schools be desegrated via busing. During the hubbub a teenage girl vanishes from Southie, and the teen's frantic mother searches for her.
Lehane always writes well and this story is very good. 4 stars

Poirot and Me
by David SuchetMemoir written (with help) by the actor famous for his definitive portrayal of the great detective Hercule Poirot. Very entertaining and interesting story of Suchet's methods and of the process of filming those wonderful TV episodes. Tends to get a bit repetitive towards the end but well worth the read for those interested. 4 stars.
Elementary, My Dear Groucho
by Ron GoulartGroucho Marx, Detective #3. Groucho Marx investigating murders in Hollywood in 1938. Who Knew? Very entertaining, witty , light mystery featuring Groucho (with all his witticisms) and a friend who narrates (ala Dr. Watson) their adventures investigating a Hollywood murder which takes place on a Sherlock Holmes movie set. Very cute, fun story -- 4 stars.

Voodoo, Ltd.
by Ross ThomasWu and Durant (WuDu) are hired to help a movie star who has been accused of murder. And of course they assemble the usual gang. This is another 5 star effort from Thomas who can create the most intricate and fascinating plots around. Highly recommended.
Murder at the House of Rooster Happiness
by David CasarettA nurse working in a hospital in a smaller city in Thailand stumbles across a murder, she thinks. Charming , very well done mystery loaded with information about the people of Thailand and how they think and act. At first the story seems to be going slowly because of the explanations of what the nurse is thinking but it's very interesting and the story gets complicated and does move right along. I really liked it , 4 stars.
Earth 2, Vol. 1: The Gathering

I'd have been saying a lot more than Hail, Mary, if I'd been on board that spaceship in Andrew Weir's amazing sci-fi adventure, Project Hail Mary! A wild, fascinating ride into the unknown, full of warmth and affection in spite of the terror.
