M. (elder_prince) | 78 comments I've read Christine at least four times. It's the smoothest and easiest-to-read book SK have ever written, a page-turner and mind candy. One of the rare books I could read in one sitting (Yeah, I'm usually a slow reader).

I've read Needful Things three times. Simply brilliant. Gaunt is a terrific villain, probably as much as RF for me. Ace Merrill is one of those sub-villain I couldn't forget. (view spoiler)

I've read several of his other books two times: Pet Samatary, The Stand, various short stories and a few more.

message 2: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) For me, the clear winner would be The Shining. Then The Stand, and then probably the Dark Tower series.

message 3: by Malina (new)

Malina | 304 comments The Stand, at least four times, I was just contemplating another go at it!

message 4: by M. (new)

M. (elder_prince) | 78 comments I'll have to read The Stand another time for sure. The Shining as well.

message 5: by Steve (new)

Steve Parcell | 176 comments I read the Complete and Uncut edition of the Stand before Christmas and it was the 3rd time and twice for the original version so 5 in total.
It was like going out with old dear friends.

message 6: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I've never read the "original" edited version of The Stand. I do own it though and it's definitely on my list of SOOOOOOOOOOOOON reads. LOL

message 7: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I've read It three times. My favorite novel.

message 8: by Doreen (new)

Doreen Petersen | 252 comments The Stand.

message 9: by Pj (new)

Pj (MiniBandit) | 4 comments Absolutely The Stand! Have read it at least 6 times if not more. I also love IT and have read that 3 times. And i agree with you that Christine is very smooth quick reading.

message 10: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I've read IT twice. The first time I read the pb edition and liked it but wasn't wowed... the second time I listened to the audio and absolutely loved it. I highly recommend the audio version. It's fantastic.

Just sayin'.

message 11: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Read it and listened to the audiobook which is really very good. I recommend the audio if your into it. Never read the shorter version. Wonder if it has anything to recommend it.

message 12: by Donald (new)

Donald Scott (writeondon) Don't re-read books, there are too many out there to read and I won't live long enough to complete my TBR list as it is ...

message 13: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I've read The Stand (both versions) many times, just not sure how many. Close runners up would be The Shining, Lisey's Story and The Long Walk.

I've read all of his more than once with very few exceptions.

message 14: by Jim (new)

Jim (powelljf3) | 8 comments The Stand and the Shining would top that list for me.

message 15: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments I've read and listened to On Writing six times (give or take a partial listen-to) 11/22/63 three times.

message 16: by Jaro (new)

Jaro (aplaceofmarvels) | 56 comments I've read Bag of Bones five times, Duma Key and Pet Sematary three times each. There is a certain power to some of his books that make them satisfying to re-read. Especially those that have a character on the rebound from some tragedy or loss. Like Mike in Bag and Edgar Freemantle in Duma. I just want to read again and again how they make it through. I've also read On Writing three times.

Great insights Jaro. Bag of Bones really deserves a re-read on my part. I liked it a lot... Duma Key too. I may have read that one 3 times.

message 18: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I've read Duma key at least 5 times. Maybe more. I am a serial rereader.

*sigh*

That's why my TBR never gets smaller.

message 19: by Todd (new)

Todd (toddwn) Carrie about 6 times. I love it.

message 20: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 199 comments For me it is The Long Walk - probably 3 or 4 times.

I have and have not yet read the uncut Stand (but I do have it). I also have the original edited and that is the only one I have read. So, I guess that will not count as a re-read!

message 21: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments I have read The Uncut Stand 3 times and always find something new. Either a detail in a character or setting that adds a little something to the story

message 22: by Alice (new)

Alice hamer | 16 comments The Stand and It. Soon I will be adding 11/22/63 to this list. I love this book also!

message 23: by Terri (new)

Terri Edwards (teresaluvsbooks) | 149 comments The Stand.

message 24: by Lonne (new)

Lonne (lonnster) | 17 comments The DT series ofc

message 25: by Michael (new)

Michael Davis I think the only one I've read twice is Pet Sematary and that was a long time ago. You guys have inspired me to reread some of my faves though.

message 26: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments The winner for me with 5 times read is The Gunslinger. Next, with 4 times read is Drawing of the Three, The Waste Lands, Wizard and Glass, and Eyes of the Dragon. Third place, with 3 times read is Wolves of the Calla, Song of Susannah, and The Dark Tower, as well as Nightmares and Dreamscapes, The Stand, Four Past Midnight, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, The Talisman, IT, Bag of Bones, Cujo, Different Seasons, and Desperation. The others are all either once or twice, though I'm sure my numbers will undoubtedly change in the future :)

message 27: by Squire (last edited Mar 28, 2015 07:54PM) (new)

Squire (srboone) | 92 comments It would have to be The Gunslinger. Because every time a new DT book came out, I would reread the previous ones (except 5,6, &7--they came out in rapid succession). I think I've read TGS around 8 or 9 times.

But I've read The Stand (1978) 4 times and the other version once.

message 28: by Victoria (new)

Victoria DeBene | 12 comments uncut Stand is my all time favorite King novel--ENJOY!

message 29: by Peastatgeria (new)

Peastatgeria | 7 comments The Stand and The Dark Tower Series. Reading the Dark Tower books right behind each other without waiting years between books give you a fuller complete story. Its just a different experience.
The Stand and the complete Dark Tower series are my favorite SK books of all times. I can read them over and over.

message 30: by Tom (new)

Tom | 78 comments Read the stand twice. Gunslinger twice and the Mist twice but I intend to reread all his short story books as soon as I find them

message 31: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (chkntza) I haven't even read all his books once. I'm still doing that.

message 32: by Tom (new)

Tom | 78 comments I haven't read them all yet either but I haven't read the earlier ones since I was in high school. That was awhile ago!

message 33: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (chkntza) My problem is that although Stephen King is my favorite author I still like to read other authors too so I switch off. And that makes the whole process longer.

message 34: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I read tons of authors besides King, but I always manage to read his newest as soon as its released and then sneak a few rereads of the oldies but goodies in each year.

message 35: by Ronnie (new)

Ronnie Wimberly (ronnie_pw) | 19 comments I haven't read all of Stephen King's books. Frankly, a lot of them don't interest me, although I'm sure I would enjoy them. I have read The Tommyknockers 3 times, I'm reading The Gunslinger right now for the third time and will be going on to the next books of The Dark Tower series. It will be the second time reading all of those. I have a really good memory of the books I have read so reading them again too soon doesn't make sense to me. It has been a long time since I have read his books for the first time, so I'm sure I will be getting back to rereading some of the early works.

message 36: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nikkigrace) | 7 comments Pet Semary and The Shinning are the ones I have read the most. My 15yr old read her first King book, Carrie, a few months ago and she is currently re-reading it again.

message 37: by Chris , The Hardcase (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 1169 comments Mod
The Gunslinger, for reasons Squire mentioned above - read it with new releases of the DT series. Plue I've reread the completed series a couple of times since then.

Besides those, I've read The Stand four or five times between the two versions.

Next would probably be The Regulators, strangely enough.

message 38: by Chris (new)

Chris (bibliophile85) | 83 comments I've read The Shining (my personal favorite) at least 5 times since I first read it 16 years ago. A close second would probably be Rose Madder of all things. I don't care what people think, I like that book.

message 39: by Trent (new)

Trent (stephenkingaddiction) | 152 comments bag of bones, the stand, the girl who loved Tom Gordon each twice

message 40: by Ebb (new)

Ebb (ebbsbooks) | 0 comments I've read Under the Dome twice and listened to the audiobook.

message 41: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments On Writing about 6 times, Shawshank about 4, Girl who live Tom Gordon 4, 11/22/63 3 times, Wizard and Glass, the Stand, Bag of Bones, Under the Dome, Tommyknockers, Christine, Gerald's Game, Rose Madder, Full Dark No Stars ... 2.

message 42: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I just finished The Shining for the 8th or 9th time.

message 43: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Kandice wrote: "I just finished The Shining for the 8th or 9th time."

Amazingly enough I've only read it once, and it was the first King book I read. Definitely time for a re-read.

I'm sure it doesn't, but it was such a mind-blowing experience that I'm kind of saving it... for a dark and stormy night... or when my wife finally throws me out. :-) BTW listening to King's rationale of the life of a writer in the eyes of his spouse (in Bag of Bones) may have bought me a little forgiveness. At least now she knows she's not alone.

message 46: by K.L. (new)

K.L. Turner | 63 comments The Stand, The Shining, The Dead Zone, The Gunslinger, 'Salems' Lot. Have read those multiple times. Can't really remember how many times for each book, but those are the ones I gravitate to most frequently.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

The Shining, Salem's Lot, and Desperation.

message 48: by Ron (new)

Ron | 134 comments I so rarely re-read a book, but King book would be the author I would choose. More troubling, there are King books that I've yet to read even once.

message 49: by Terri (new)

Terri Edwards (teresaluvsbooks) | 149 comments Ron wrote: "I so rarely re-read a book, but King book would be the author I would choose. More troubling, there are King books that I've yet to read even once."

Get going, Ron! You're in for an incredible ride. I'm getting ready to start Finders Keepers and the Dark Tower series.

Happy reading!

message 50: by Victor (new)

Victor I have only read the first three Dark Tower books twice. I really want to reread Cujo since that was my first King book I read.
