Geloü Yep!

message 5: by Allison (new)

Allison | 45 comments Yep. I only listen to unabridged books as well.

message 6: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimreadsbooks) | 1 comments Absolutely. In my opinion, it doesn't matter which "sense" absorbs the content. I love listening to audiobooks and often benefit from foreign word pronunciations that my eyes would struggle processing. This is especially true for indigenous content which I enjoy reading.

Abi | 104 comments 100%

message 8: by Jess (new)

Jess Muñoz Ledo (jessmunoz) yes

abbiealwaysreads (abbiebasherhotmailcom) | 8 comments Yes! I love a good audiobook!

message 10: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments Yes, of course.
I write every single book into a special book diary (Daphne DuMaurier did the same when she was a child). That way I know the total number of books I've read in my life (over 4.000 books so far, but I tend to reread my favorites).
But at first I write them in my diary at the end of each month on two pages dedicated to what I've read.

Malissa (malissa1578) | 163 comments Yes! Reading and listening are the same thing in my opinion. I retain the information from both. I work a lot, so audiobooks are a must. I love reading on my kindle and researching with my hardcopy books.

message 12: by Hollie (new)

Hollie Aldridge | 25 comments 100%
Usually, listening as I am doing other things is the only way I am able to get my story time.

message 18: by Arthur (new)

message 19: by kayla (new)

kayla (kaylacallahann) | 101 comments me personally, no because i didnt read it
but then again, i don't do audiobooks

message 20: by Zoe Anne (new)

Zoe Anne M (theboundlessbookworm) | 98 comments A definite and resounding yes

message 21: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 136 comments Definitely! Reading a book shouldn't limit you to just books in print. Audiobooks offer the reader (usually) a wonderful reenactment of the text.

message 22: by Allie (new)

Allie Quillian | 2 comments I do not, I also do not listen to an audiobook until I have read the book with my own voice first. I used to but for my own personal goals now I do not. But I definitely encourage others to, my mom is dyslexic so the only way she can read books is with audiobooks.

message 23: by vmar (new)

vmar | 21 comments Absolutely! Audiobooks broaden accessibility and enjoyment!

message 24: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Laporte YES!
Honestly since I started audio books I'm retaining more of the information. I tend to be a fast reader and it causes me to skim, audio books make me catch every word!

message 25: by Holly (new)

Holly | 1 comments YES! I like to do re-reads with audio after I've read them too - after a while and it helps me catch things I didn't pick up on the first time. I think its refreshing, and I will count it as I read it!

message 26: by Lucy (new)

Lucy | 131 comments for sure!! i don’t read audiobooks much but i would 100% count it as reading! <3

message 27: by Daniele (new)

Daniele (danielezan) | 25 comments Why shouldn't I? They are books :-)

message 28: by Dee (last edited Jan 04, 2024 01:31PM) (new)

Dee Turner | 17 comments Of course, why not? Is the eye somehow more worthy or heightened a sense than the ear?? Surely to assert so assigns the blind or reading impaired to the back of the bus, which I find loathsome.

I also agree with Rebecca, as I read much faster than I can listen, even if I amp the speed to 1.3. I listen to almost all non-fiction, because it allows me to absorb difficult concepts more easily, where my reading mind wants to create scenery! I'm very gratified to see such unanimity of opinion, here.

message 29: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne No. But I read much more than listen so it doesn’t make a difference for me.

message 30: by Mary (new)

Mary Guilbo | 5 comments most definitely. Burying my nose in a book is one of my favorite ways to tune out the world, but I can't always do that. Certain stories lend themselves to audiobook format, and it depends on the narrator, but it's no better way to deal with commuting time than to listen to a great story.

message 31: by Denim ♡ (new)

Denim ♡ | 52 comments I have only ever done a few audios and yes I added them to my 'READ' list

message 32: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannahleekuhn) I think it’s pretty ableist for anyone commenting no. Of course it counts as reading a book. It’s still the same book with the same words if you listen or read. And also specifically on this app they let you put percentage or page number for just that reason…..so again YES it absolutely counts.

message 33: by Diane (new)

Diane Absolutely...100% YES!!👍

Lacey (bookishlace) (laceyannea) | 2 comments Yes!

message 35: by Elvira (new)

Elvira Bergquist | 28 comments Yep! I don’t listen very often since I don’t have a specific app for books, but i listened to the first hunger game book and I’ve listened to some Harry Potter books. When I listen I can do chores at the same time, so I’m trying to listen to more books, but again - mostly I read the physical stuff. I do however want to reread the hunger games book since I got the entire series, all four books, as a Christmas gift! So I’ll be rating it after reading it physically (though i already know it’ll be a 5/5).

message 36: by BookishDramas (new)

BookishDramas (sanjibkd) | 269 comments Absolutely.

message 37: by Allie (new)

Allie Quillian | 2 comments Saying that those of us who said no is ableist is a little weird considering the question is if WE count them for our own reading. I said no because I don’t count them for myself but followed up saying i think others should because my mom is dyslexic and I definitely see the value. I thought the question was for ourselves not to tell others what to think…?

message 38: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Johnson | 1 comments Personally I don’t but I don’t think that should be a hard rule for anyone else.

message 39: by Zozunen (new)

Zozunen Yes!

message 40: by Gie (new)

Gie | 10 comments yes!

message 41: by Michi (new)

Michi (michipages) | 1 comments Yes I count them

message 42: by Hollie (new)

Hollie Aldridge | 25 comments Yes. The only time I get to enjoy a book is when driving or doing housework. Being a working mom doesn't allow me free time so multitasking is a must!!! When there is down time that is when my family want a piece of me to snuggle/family activity/etc.... It has to be a pretty important book for me to be able to carve out a piece of my busy life to dedicate to it. Happens maybe 2 times a year.

message 43: by Shawna (new)

Shawna Finnigan (sugoishawn) | 120 comments Yes!

message 44: by Steve (new)

Steve Rufle | 6 comments While I don't listen to audio books, if I did I would count them.

message 45: by Austin (Weird) (new)

Austin (Weird) (weirdwashere1) yes

J-nae Kettoman (jkettoman) | 4 comments Of course.

message 48: by hetvi (new)

hetvi (hetvidandeboina) Yes yes yes!!!

message 49: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Croney | 35 comments I don't normally listen to audiobooks but I definitely still count them, it's really the story that counts :)

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)
