I write every single book into a special book diary (Daphne DuMaurier did the same when she was a child). That way I know the total number of books I've read in my life (over 4.000 books so far, but I tend to reread my favorites).
But at first I write them in my diary at the end of each month on two pages dedicated to what I've read.

Honestly since I started audio books I'm retaining more of the information. I tend to be a fast reader and it causes me to skim, audio books make me catch every word!

I also agree with Rebecca, as I read much faster than I can listen, even if I amp the speed to 1.3. I listen to almost all non-fiction, because it allows me to absorb difficult concepts more easily, where my reading mind wants to create scenery! I'm very gratified to see such unanimity of opinion, here.

I drive a ton for work...so I listen to audio books all the time. I count them
