message 71: by Sara (new)

Sara Christine | 4 comments I do! I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t, imo the story is written to be shared not necessarily to be read off a page by your own eyes. Also, if we are talking about reading as a skill and therefore “audiobooks are not reading” then I’d like to propose the idea that listening and comprehension is just as important a skill as reading.

Also, I simply do not have enough time to read all the books I want to in my lifetime, so I choose to listen to audiobooks too so I can “read” whenever I want ;))

message 72: by Volia (new)

Volia Schubiger | 1 comments i definitely count it! you're still engaging with the story. i used to kind of have my nose in the air about audiobooks but then i realized it's so great to not have to put my book down just because i'm about to cook or do my skincare routine. i can keep listening and diving in!

I agree and also as a person who has to use glasses and sits in front of a computer for about 8 to 10 hours a day sometimes my eyes need a rest. Or what about people who can't actually see at all and need to listen to audiobooks to read. so yea all these reasons and more :)

message 78: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (hansenste) | 1 comments Yes- they often take longer to listen to that I would take reading them. They keep me sane while I do tedious work.

Rox (roxyfoxy) yes, blind people are not readers if they not read? audiobooks are books as well

message 81: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (tralalibrarian) | 10 comments of course audiobooks count

message 82: by Jo (new)

Jo | 6 comments Personally I don't. Mainly as I don't listen to new audio books as I feel like I might miss parts if I do something else at the same time. So it's always favourite books I've already read that I'll listen too so I don't have to give it my full attention... If that makes sense? But I understand why people count them as books they've read.

message 83: by PurpleLadi (new)

PurpleLadi Most definitely!
Usually, I am following along with the ebook or print copy. By the way, following along while listening to audio books increases your reading fluency.
