SOLVED. Poem about extinct birds (dodo, auk). [s]

I remember 2-3 lines of this poem but can't place it:

"Dead is the dodo, gone is the auk
Who couldn't fly but only walk."

I don't know that this was in a book but I can't find the poem on its own anywhere using search engines, so that's my next best guess. Could it be a Shel Silverstein?

The Book is called Laughing Time: Collected Nonsense by William Jay Smith 1990 and the title of the Poem is Goony Bird
