PurpleLadi I aim to read 150 books. That's 25 more than 2023's goal, of 125, which I easily made with 137 books read.

Will have to admit that 150 books is a hefty goal for one year especially if your employed full time. But once I went over and seen some of the books you've already red that are barely 50 page children books I can understand how you are getting that many books in per year.

Dee Turner | 17 comments keona wrote: "i just want to read good books and so far im meeting my goal!"

I'm with Keona! I'd rather read real literary works, longer books, books that show intellectual and moral rigor AND entertain. (The Hild Sequence is two books almost 1800 pages but it's magnificent!) I wouldn't want to lose that to a numbers game. I'm also trying to read a serious non-fiction book as one in five--but am allowing for escapism as needed, given all that's happening in real life.

message 271: by Ashley (new)

Ashley R | 61 comments Hi! My goals for this year are:

- to stay consistent with reading every other day

- try to branch out in new genres, even if I may not like them

- to start reading books that I actually think I’ll like, instead of what’s popular

- to flip flop between genres. Like after reading Piranesi, I now am going to read Jane Austen before I dive into The Poppy War.

message 272: by Brian (new)

Brian | 186 comments Ashley wrote:..."flip flop between genres."

I'm hearing that...

Kind of fell into a "downer" genre of late (10 out of the last 11 books); In Cold Blood, The Dairy of a Young Girl (Anne Frank), Life of Pi, The Bell Jar, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Frankenstein, War of the Worlds. Into the Wild and One Hundred Years of Solitude.

Lizz | 3 comments I have a few goals

-73 books this year
-More diversity with my books (BIPOC, LGBTQIA, Disability, etc.)
-Don't be afraid to DNF popular books, pushing through just puts me in a slump.
-Receive more ARCs

Amelia D. | 28 comments Mines 50!

message 288: by Leice ✨ (new)

Leice ✨ 50 Books 💫

I want to delve deeper into fantasy/romantasy ✨❤️

I want to tackle ToG in 2024, for sure but still ploughing through Acotar

message 289: by Heart (new)

Heart (heartreader) | 5 comments This year I am aiming low. I want to soak in the books I read and even the ones I hate or dislike etc, I want to be fully present instead of how I did last year where I was binge reading.

Just experimenting to see if that enhances my reading experience.

(and will DNF more easily if it is just not for me)

so with those being said, my goal is :

1. Finish TOG series
2. Reread any favs from the series without guilt if I want to
3. After that (or during): read 20 books

message 294: by Grace (new)

Grace | 15 comments My post is untimely, but this is the first reading challenge I've ever done. I've set a personal goal to read 40 books this year. Since this challenge began on January 1, 2024, I've really found my love for reading again. As of today, I just started reading my 15th book! So happy to be ahead of my goal and who knows how many books I will read by the end of the year.

Loved the last book I read, "Just Stab Me Now." And, just started reading, "Where the Forest Meets the Stars." (In 2023 I read this authors book, "Oceanography of the Moon" - great read and not at all what I was expecting).

There are so many awesome books out there and since I'm retired now and haven't avidly read anything in many, many years; I think this year will prove to be a most interesting one with all the different journeys, adventures, challenges and mysteries I will be partaking in a vast array of genres. Book on!!!

message 295: by Stephanie (last edited Feb 24, 2024 08:19AM) (new)

Stephanie W I have a bunch of reading goals, ranging from very easy to quite difficult.

1. Straight numbers goal: 365 books. I've been doing this for several years so I'd call this Difficulty: Medium

2. Continuing Education Challenge: Read 50 nonfiction books. I've been doing this for a few years as well and find it really enriching to be learning new things every day. Difficulty: Medium

3. Backlog Challenge: Read or DNF all older unread works by three favourite authors, Brandon Sanderson, L.E. Modesitt, and Cassandra Gannon. Difficulty: Easy because a) there aren't that many books, about 60 total, and b) these are my favourite authors, or course I want to read everything they've ever written!

4. Daily Stoic Challenge: Read the Daily Stoic on a daily basis. Difficuty: Easy, it's like one or two pages a day.

5. Harvard Classics Challenge: Read the Harvard Classics in full in one year. Difficulty: Insane.

message 296: by Toni (new)

Toni (septimusmith) 85 this year. I read over 150 books per year, and sometimes I think it's too much haha. 😅

message 297: by Phrodrick slowed his growing backlog (last edited Feb 24, 2024 10:33AM) (new)

Phrodrick slowed his growing backlog Mostly I avoid reading goals per se, I have general intentions.
This year looks to be a year of trilogies. I just finished THE OHIO RIVER TRILOGY: Betty Zane + The Spirit of the Border + The Last Trail (Western Classics Series): Historical Novels which I cannot esp recommend. Next up is most likely The Balkan Trilogy.
Meantime I tend to have several books going at once, it will be fun to see what other book happens next.

Nora (Grayson's version) (noraseed) | 179 comments To read 25 books.
