luna ♡ | 53 comments i set a 50 book goal but i'd like to read all the physical books i have now because there's loads, and then get some from my amazon cart, and just keep pushing through until next year, I've been getting into the 'reader' sort of communities and collecting from authors and genres, so maybe try and branch out some more with stuff like that, have my fun an take my time <3

Liz luv | 57 comments 133!!

message 67: by Shelby (new)

Shelby Kay | 29 comments I only put 20. Last year it was 50 and I read 81 but I got too competitive with it and took the fun out of it. I stopped getting all cozy and really enjoying the process of reading and instead only cared about how many I could read so realistically I’ll read way more than 20 but I’m hoping setting it at 20 will just keep me on track to keep reading a good amount almost as a minimum

Thats a good idea and reasoning.

Jessi D'Arcy (jessidarcy) | 3 comments I'm hoping to read 30 books this year. I went through a slump after I graduated college (I was an english major) because I was reading so much each semester. So, last year I read 20 books and this year I'm hoping for 30!

abbiealwaysreads (abbiebasherhotmailcom) | 8 comments I start mine at 100 and adjust it if I get beyond that too soon!

message 75: by Dee (new)

Dee Turner | 17 comments I usually select 150 and hope I go over--this year was 164 books. But I don't want to read short ones just to make inventory, and this year I wasted too much effort on books that really weren't worth reading, although they were recommended.

I'll be happy to read less quantity if I can up quality!! My favorite book published in 2023 was Carsten Jensen's We the Drowned (translated from Danish). I'd happily read just 20 books a year, if they were all that soulful and intellectually rigorous.

Hollie Aldridge | 25 comments Due to starting a new job, I set my goal at 30 books for the upcoming year. There is no break down.... just whatever strikes my fancy. I would like to laugh more this year, so it would be nice to read more things with witty dialog and bantering.

message 97: by Iz (new)

Iz Reading | 31 comments Happy New Year! Mine is 24 for '24 and to not feel guilty about not finishing a book if I'm losing interest in it

message 98: by JoyReaderGirl1 (new)

JoyReaderGirl1 | 25 comments I feel fortunate to be a bookworm who gets the opportunity to read advance reader's copies (ARCs) of books from NetGalley before they are published. It's like having access to a treasure trove of undiscovered gems - a magical cave of the most anticipated upcoming bestsellers. I enjoy this privilege thoroughly and take it very seriously. Reading and reviewing each book as quickly as possible is my top priority. I understand that objective reviews are crucial to the success or failure of these publications. It's often like sifting through sand and gravel before finding the shining nuggets of gold, but the process is always rewarding.

message 99: by Kez (new)

Kez Marie (kezmarie36) | 38 comments Mines 288 (24 each month). i read more than I expected last year so I feel it's achievable especially with ARC's. I also want to read the physical books I own and not just on my kindle, and reduce my tbr lists

message 100: by Dee (new)

Hi, Sara! I've got some great non-fiction recs for you!

Archeology and Adventure: 1) River of the Gods: Genius, Courage and Betrayal in the Search for the Source of the Nile
Candice Millard, also 2) The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey, by Candice Millard, and 3) The Great Divide, by Cristina Henríquez

American History: Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President, by Candice Millard. (What can I say, she's brilliant)

Physics and Politics: The Disordered Cosmos: A Journey into Dark Matter, Spacetime, and Dreams Deferred, by Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein

Political Warning: Crack-Up Capitalism: Crack-Up Capitalism: Market Radicals and the Dream of a World Without Democracy, by Quinn Slobodian

Racism: The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together, by Heather McGhee
