Vagabond Treehouse ~ [Fall 2025: World of Chains #1-3 (Wayward Bard) | The Perfect Run 1-3 (alternating)]

Decided to get out my tripod and get back to doing test shots. Wanna get back out & take more astrophotography & hiking pix next year. 😎

Thanks Iain. I forget that these things are reportable.
I'm mostly on the ball with it lately because I've been into the Help page a fair bit in relation to linking people to the hidden email notification changes announcement...

Iain, where are you tracking 2025 releases?
Nothing concrete yet... I made a list in the BR invite thread, copied it over to my other group, and will eventually store everything in the New Year, New Books challenge thread in January...
Here's the other group link... it's pretty bare bones so far... I'll go over it again in December and add a bunch more stuff I forgot and that's relevant to the other group...

Buddy Read Invites is pretty active lately, since it's been the better place to visit to get more BRs setup, instead of using all the series threads to plan requesting the next books, or replacement series, given all the email notification hijinks... seems like the best place for me to get people's attention, as me and Ann-Marie, and Nirkatze when she's around, try to get 2025 robust...
With less people super active, the schedule was a bit light... we're fixing that ;)
Altho, I was planning to leave room for others to have ideas... but as the weeks pass, the desire to fill it up keeps increasing...

We already have the Scalzi planned. What about that T Kingfisher? Plus whenever that 3rd Rachel Aaron book has a release date, we should plan it.
I think I remember Ilona Andrews had released a tentative 2025 schedule. I'd love to BR whatever releases from them next year.
I see that Butcher has the next Dresden almost written. Is there any chance it could release next year or is it likely 2026?

I checked IA's upcoming releases page and it's not updated for 2025 so it's in a blog post somewhere that I don't want to go dig for.
I know we have Discworld going and I'm in for the long haul there, even though I likely won't get to Nov or Dec's reads until after finishing up Stormlight.
I've been debating doing some house cleaning and rereading older books to see if I want to keep them or trade them in. Think you (or anyone) would be up for some older fantasy?
Can always post in BR Invite thread and gauge interest ;)
Not sure IA has anything official for 2025... it's all flux around Maggie edits... could be wrong tho... there's the 2 books they want to write... I think Hugh 2 and next Innkeeper... or Aurelia Ryder 2... I forget...

I need to write them down while standing in front of my shelves. I'll take care of that over the next few days.

Juliet E. McKenna - The Tales of Einarinn:
The Thief's Gamble
The Swordsman's Oath
The Gambler's Fortune
The Warrior's Bond
The Assassin's Edge
I remember exactly nothing about this series. It would be like reading it fresh unless parts of the plot started to come back as I read. I don't see an audio option on the first book's page.
Anne McCaffrey - Catteni:
Freedom's Landing
Freedom's Choice
Freedom's Challenge
Freedom's Ransom
While I don't remember details, it's a scifi where aliens invade Earth and take some humans back for slaves. I think there ends up a romance subplot? I saw an audio CD of the first book listed so possibly?
Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory - The Obsidian Trilogy:
The Outstretched Shadow
To Light a Candle: The Obsidian Trilogy, Book Two
When Darkness Falls: The Obsidian Trilogy, Book 3
If I remember right this is a classic high fantasy story. I see audio for the first book listed.
C.S. Friedman - The Magister Trilogy:
Feast of Souls
Wings of Wrath
Legacy of Kings
Dark fantasy where magic is powered by life force. No idea what the rest of the plot was about. I see an audio listed on the first book's page.
Tanya Huff - Keeper's Chronicles:
Summon the Keeper
The Second Summoning
Long Hot Summoning
Urban Fantasy set in Canada. I remember it being a lot of fun. I see an audio book listed for the first one.
Jennifer Fallon - Second Sons:
Lion of Senet
Eye of the Labyrinth
Lord of the Shadows
Another one I barely remember. It's... high fantasy but low on magic? I want to say more political but I wouldn't swear to it. I see an audio listed for the first book.
I'll read Keeper Chronicles... the whole trilogy is on Audible Plus and it's Urban Fantasy... not sure about the rest...

I can do Obsidian and Keeper's Chronicles with ya! =D
The rest require purchase or no audiobooks.
Sorta tempted to put out Anne McCaffrey series. I think I have the ebooks. That one will be a maybe for me. I probably read that series eons ago. XD
1-2 other audiobooks are on A+… just book 1 of the series… so we can try for free… the Wild Magic one and maybe the alien slaver one?

Edit: One series for the 10ths and the other for the 17ths of Feb/Mar/Apr is what I'm proposing.

Does that mean the other books in those series available in audio format just not A+?

I'm good with whatever schedule works for ya.
@Iain, which are on Audible Plus? 🤔
Looks like it's only Obsidian Trilogy #1 and Keeper Chronicles #1-3 with Audible Plus availability...
Everything has buyable audio except McKenna... the only McKenna audiobooks are a the first 2 books in a longer series about the Green Man, and book 1 of THAT is on Audible Plus:
The Green Man's Heir
The Green Man's Foe

Usually, it's just super strong/smart or everything is plot armored.
Asian idea is to have an epic full Renaissance character build of intelligence, physical ability, skills and beauty. 🤣
I like it when all the MANY uber aspects of Mary/Gary leads are spread in the story progression. Plot armor can be entertaining when it's done in a clever manner. Fun popcorn!

I got a bunch of mildly random stuff, but I figured this is one that most of us haven't read.

Now I'm just using my insulated mug to seep coffee, make coffee with seeped brew and using coffee grinds to keep trash can deordorized. 😎
Figured out my fav balance of coffee, ice cream & honey for this particular setup. ☕️

was gonna say you need a thermos... can make a full pot of coffee and store it warm for a few hours, and dole out a cup at a time, if you're a big coffee drinker...

I feel like I hear crickets, lately, looking at notifications and seeing it dead... not sure how much is the email changes, and how much is just people busy with life, but commenting has been way down since September/October... hopefully there's an influx again in December/January, as people get excited for New Year, and holidays wind down...
Reminds me of the 2020 lull when covid ramped up... became a ghost town for a year or 2...

Like I only did that with a few of the threads here on FBR. I haven't bothered to go and make updates in other groups, etc. I'm still surprised I get updates in my normal feed from friends. XD
It's more reliable to check group homepage to see where people have posted. I do that sometimes.
Super being lazy about it all though.
@Iain, I'm gonna look at the Tracker later today. Plan to sign up for the 2025 Challenge. I like my tracker to be kinda simple, but would be nice to have drop downs for Graphic Novel/WebNovel, etc. Will take a look see at the default & what others have setup.
Sounds good…
I check the discussions tab to see new comments even in threads I’m not subscribed to, but yesterday was basically a day where nobody talked after about now, except you and Erin in the Heavenly Tyrant thread…

I'm making progress on Lich's Bargain, which isn't a BR so not commenting a whole lot. I'm not making as much progress on Rhythm of War so not commenting because I think I only read one chapter yesterday. I think I'm past my digression into understanding DID and should read a bit more this week. That video was super interesting.

According to my Audible app, I have almost an equal amount of read vs unread in my library.
So... 2025 is gonna be all about getting that unread number down.
😆📚📚📚😆
At least a good portion of those books are also ones I bought on sale to get the audiobooks for series/etc that I liked in print. That's probably 20-30%.
well... let's make it worse first ;)
Audible should be having a sitewide sale with prices as much as 85% off, starting Friday or Monday, if it's like last year...

Though, with the prices of everything going up, I probably will adjust the idea of what I think of as a good middle sales price. Ugh. Inflation. Experiencing inflation multiple times in one's life is hard!
"Back in the day--"
XD
It basically depends what the regular price is... if the regular price is under $20-25, you can get some nice cheap $2-4 books... if it isn't, it's probably not gonna be worth it (since 84% off is 1/6 price)...
The sale works best if you've been using your wishlist to tag things all year, as me and Ann-Marie have started doing... then you have an easy list to check...
Last year, I picked up a bunch of books in a couple series, and pre-ordered some unreleased books for cheap... same with the Summer Sale... I mostly pair it with my Buddy Read schedule for the year, and/or buy LitRPGs since alot tend to be Audible Exclusive...

It is most helpful for the other sales. Cause stuff on wishlist are showcased during sales as top picks.
I usually do a mix of wishlist and author checks for statewide sale.

I'm slowly but surely becoming an amateur recliner repairman... sheared another screwhead off the screws that hold the parts that hold the back of the recliner to the seat... luckily, I bought a bunch of spares, last time I had to go get some replacement parts at the hardware store...
The screws that hold these on to the recliner:

It's just an inch-long screw that screws into a Tee Nut hammered into the wood of the chair on the other side:

You need to remove the leather cover to access, if you're being professional... my amateur at-home repairs just cuts the leather outta the way... or the mesh fabric... it's in the back area of the chair anyway, and generally hidden by that velcro flap... nobody's gonna notice... and I don't have the skills for stapling leather back on to wood anyway...
